A lot of trees - A view from the top

by vec Written Mar 12, 2004

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: If you take a hike up to the top of a mountain you will notice what endless forests there are in the area around Storuman. The traces of people are some roads and a village now and then, but else it's trees, trees and more trees.

Fondest memory: Just sitting on the top, enjoying the view.

    Building a snowman

by vec Written Nov 7, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: In the Storuman Area you can always find snow from November to May. Sometime the first snow comes in September and the last snow in June.

So why not use the snow for doing something fun, like building a snowman? Just wait for some warm temperature so the snow is easy to work with.

    Go out eating some bilberries

by vec Updated Nov 8, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: From July to September you can find bilberries (blåbär) in the forests everywhere around Storuman.

Go out picking some and eat them directly, I'm sure you will love them.

Just make sure that the top of the berries has the shape of a dot and not a cross. If it has a cross it's probably the Bog Bilberry (Odon in Swedish), they are not that tasty as Bilberries and some say they can even be poisonous.

Notice that this isn't the same berry as the one called Blueberry, even if a direct translation from the Swedish word will mean just Blue berry.

    English - Bilberry
    Swedish/Norwegian/Danish - Blåbär
    Latin - Vaccinium myrtillus
    Norwegian - Blåbär
    Finnish - Mustikka
    German - Heidelbeere

    The wilderness as neighbour

by vec Written Apr 24, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: I was sitting reading a book outside my parents house, when I heard some sounds. I looked up and saw two reindeers walking by. They stoped about 50 metre from the house, eating some grass and not taking any notice of me standing there and taking pictures of them. It's really great to be able to be so close to the wilderness.

    Storuman City Hall

by vec Updated Apr 24, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: The city hall (Kommunhuset) is located in the center of Storuman. It's unfortunately nothing to see inside, but the architecture is at least a bit different for a building in south of Lapland.
