Are you coming to Umeå University as an International Student (Free Mover) !
Beware ! There are very very few student rooms available in Umeå City. Also Umeå University shows very little interest in arranging housing for International Students. (Not Exchange Students). So you have to find your housing yourself...though University claims that they arrange housing for International Students too. As Umeå University has 25,000 and more student...its tough for new comer to find housing in Umeå City...
There is company called Bostaden in Umeå City which arranges accomodation for students also....but beware...Its illusive...Bosatden website shows many student housing apartments, but to get one it might take one year or two year (when you actually finished your studies)
Please try to arrange some accomodation before coming to Umeå otherwise you will be frustrated and it will be hard to pay attention towards your studies.
I am sure, you will come to Umeå mainly for studies and not to look for housing all the time.
Best luck !

On the north side of the city you will find the hill called Bräntberget, in the winter this is a slope for downhill skiing, but it's always a good place for getting a view over the north of the town. Here a picture showing the area Mariehem.
