Hallstahammar Things to Do

  • Canal and schoolmuseum

    By the artificial lake in Hallstahammar called Skantzsjön there's a museum about the canal. It shows how the canal was built in the 18th century and how it was used before and now.Also there's a schoolmuseum and a nice café in the summer.The whole area is very quiet and the locals use it for walking and cykling especaially on sundays.

  • Fresh meat and other specialities

    This is located in an old wooden building just by the "Åsby plantgardens"."Åsby kött och vilt" has fresh meat and all kinds of sausages and alot of other local specialities. Everyone will find something tasty to bye!Combine with a visti to the gardens and to the minizoo and 3 museums in the area.

  • Strömsholm castle and riding school

    Here you can walk a guided tour and also eat at a gourmet restaurant near the castle as well as walk in the beautiful sorroundings.You can also visit the riding school and you will see horses everywhere in this area!Recommended.

  • Ancient graves and fortress in Kolbäck

    The Kolbäck-area host some interesting ancient grave fields like "Värperör" and "Årby gravfält" and also an ruin of the fortress "Borgby skans" built between 200 and 600 a.d.

  • Jazzmuseum

    If you're interested in jazz, then this is a MUST SEE! It's an fantastic museum and has a LOT of concerts all the year round.Also there's very nice food here and you of course combine this with music.Look at the homepage for more info!

  • Canoing

    If you'e here you'll have to go canoing on the beautiful Strömsholm canal!You can rent canoes at the camping but call first!You can choose to paddle as long as you want because the canal/river/lake is 90 km's long! It goes from Strömsholm in Västmanland to Smedjebacken in Dalarna.It's really beautiful!

    This is a must-eat-place if you're in the area and have some money to spend!
    Very nice exlusive food in explendid sorroundings by the river! The building is 200-years old or something and is kept oldstylish which gives a nice atmosphere.
    Also you can eat buffe in the daytime for 65 SEK!

Hallstahammar Nightlife

    This a place to go to if you want to dance and get drunk, or not. Most of the locals will be drunk to very drunk but I havent seen any fights yet though.
    Go there when there will be somebody's playing live because otherwise it's a risk it will be empty, and you can only go on the weekends, preferably saturdays.

    Dress Code: Go as you are.

    The "Brukslinjen" goes from Virsbo to Kvicksund and is a free bus so you can go to see all the nice places in the area!

Hallstahammar Sports & Outdoors

  • Swim/gym/solarium/café

    This is a sportshall built in 1939 and has a gym and a solarium but also a 25 meter pool and a café where you can get light meals. Swimmingshorts!

  • Orienteering

    If you want to orienteer take contact with the club so you can lend/buy maps in the sorroundings. If you're a club there can be trainingspackages arranged. The club have a small nice house just by the forest nicely located in the north parts of Hallstahammar. Runningshoes!

  • Running/Skiing

    There's a nice 1,3 and 5 km runningtrack in the north parts of Hallstahammar. In winter there will also be tracks for skiing made with machine but there's not alwas snow. January and february are normally good for skiing.Here the locals run or walk in the forest in their freetime. There's also a marked 10 km path for running in the deep forest but...
