Favorite thing: Goteborg is home to Scandinavia's biggest and most important port. Due to its location at the mouth of
the river Gota which ends in the Kattegat, it has access to both the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
Besides many cargo ships it is also served by ferries from Frederikshavn (DK), Kiel (D), Kristiansand (N) and Newcastle (UK).

Favorite thing: The harbour is a vital artery for Göteborg and Sweden. These days though, there are also pleasant streets and attractive residential areas close to the water.
The fisherman's quay is the place for early birds! Fish auctions are held daily at 7 am, except Mondays. Visitors can't buy, but you can watch the auction in action.

Favorite thing: Göta älv is one of the series of canals that connect western coast of Sweden with through series of big lakes to the eastern coast of Sweden. On this strategic point of entrance it is no surprise that Göteborg developed as one of the major ports of Scandinavia.
Big area of island of Hisingen is still occupied by port facilities, and some areas, including the recently closed shipyards, are now in the process of transformation.
