Kungälv is a small town some 30 km north of Göteborg and worth seeing for its picturesque wooden houses in the centre and for a huge fortress. It stands where two rivers (Göta and Nordre Älv) meet as that was an important defence point in the wars between Norway and Sweden in the days when Norway held the province north of Göteborg. Apart from that, the area between town and the seaside area around Marstrand is very picturesque in its tranquility.
