This place in Ramberget, Hisingren area is indeed a find, because you travel slightly northwest by tram & then you have to walk for about 10-15 minutes.

You'll be passing residential flat blocks and parades of shops, never imagining seeing a mountain in such a neighbourhood.

But all of a sudden, at a road junction, out of the blue, you see a huge, chunky mass of mountain!!!

My Dad had given up, thinking there is no way there can be anything with good elevation around, and he barely said that when we saw it. A most pleasant & impressive surprise :)

It's a beautiful park that you walk into and up, practically circumnavigating the base of the mountain, passing a garage on the left, carrying on & then eventually turning right into the entrance of Keillers Park, signposted and all :)

I loved discovering this place, helped by the superb directions of Hakan, my buddy.

If you want great views of the city, like the one on my intro page, then Slottsberget (Castle Hill) is your place to be. Catch an Älvsnabben boat here or to Lindholmen - itself a nice part of town where you can easily walk to Slottsberget and continue your journey. You will also be rewarded by streets with picturesque Swedish wooden houses apart from the views across the river.

On the riverside of Hisingen it is excellent to have a walk along the Promenade. In summer it is perfect to sit down at the riveside and enjoy the day watching the ships passing by.

Get there with the Älvsnabben from Klippan or Rosenlund. Any stop on Hisingen is fine.

This is the last (closest to the sea) bridge over the River Gota. It is a bit tricky to get there (5 minutes walk from the Alvsborg area on the left bank ), but in the good weather the view is rewarding, the river mouth and the islands on one side, the city on the other side, and shipyards, sea ferries, and Alvsborg 19 century industrial area beneath.

"Oh, you must see the Kronhuset",...that's what they'll say, and you will and you'll definately like it. I mean, it is Göteborg's oldest secular building so it is worth a peek, but you know what? I found Kronhusbodarna (the courtyard) much more interesting, to be honest.

Sure, the old Parliament building (previously the Armoury) is great and the civic museum inside is interesting, but the atmosphere of the cobblestoned Kronhusgården area, with it's café and community of small studios/shops, was much more inviting for me after walking around half the morning.

So,...sit outside in the early afternoon sun, relax and enjoy a coffee, then go visit the watchmaker, or the silversmith. Maybe ceramics and textiles are more your thing? If so, then pop into Västergården and see what they have to offer. Afterwards you can wander into Göteborgs Glas-Studio and watch the resident craftsmen and women create magnificent and functional works of art in glass. It's your afternoon so it's your choice, and whichever you do choose, I'm positive you won't leave without a smile on your face.

Since Göteborg is very much a pedestrian's city I suggest doing just that; become a pedestrian.

Put on your most comfortable walking shoes, grab your camera, a bit of cash, leave the rental in the Hotel's parking lot and head out into the crisp morning air. Turn right, turn left; whichever grabs your fancy and just start walking. As in any old city, you'll be amazed at what you'll see when you simply take the time to look. Take a peek at that little courtyard on the other side of that hedge, investigate what might be down that tiny little street, read every sign you come across and when you sit at one point to have that obligatory coffee, why don't you look up at the building? You might be as surprised as I was to see this simple, lovely painting depicting 3 chubby Nisser at work and play on a gorgeous summer's day on the wall of this old brick and plaster covered Hamburgerköket somewhere near Vasastaden.

Visiting grand Churches and a fascinating Fortress are great ways to spend an afternoon, but sometimes it's the little things; the tiny details, which make a trip more memorable.

Walk! This is a town with many areas of different character and all within walking distance, if you like walking that is. Look on your map after Majorna, Guldheden and Lindholmen with the small paradise Slottsberget. A walk in the harbour is also nice, especially on a sunny day.

Take a stroll across Götaälvsbron, the bridge between the hising island and central Gothenburg. It?s a nice view and best of all, totally free! :-)

Well worth it.
