    Official Tourist Guide
    by HORSCHECK
A free Official Tourist Guide is available from Goteborg's Tourist Information Offices and some other places like airports or hotels. Among various maps it also covers all sorts of information about accomodation, sightseeing, parks shopping, excursions, restaurants, transport and much more.
I found that Guide really useful for my long weekend trip.

    Directions:
Goteborg's two Tourist Information Offices are located in the Nordstan Shopping Centre and at Kungsportsplatsen 2. Apart from that you can pick up the guide at the airport and in various hotels.

Don't forget to take a free city map of Goteborg at one of the Tourist Information Offices. They have various free maps available. Some also include an overview of the tram network, other ones have a street index. So there is no need to buy a map.

    Directions:
Goteborg's two Tourist Information Offices are located in the Nordstan Shopping Centre and at Kungsportsplatsen 2. Apart from that you can already pick up various tourist brochures at the airport.

A Covenant Ark is good if you have one, and perhaps a small change purse filled with coins of a minimal denomination of say, 50 öre. (to be thrown to the masses)

I found that my robe was sufficiant for most days, but on those really windy mornings when I'd be taking my reflective stroll along the docks of Eriksberg, I did find myself getting a bit chilly so I was terribly grateful that I had brought my silk cassock and thick, wooly socks.

A sturdy, tall, imposing hat, and maybe a golden staff of some sort? I don't know, it works for me. Oh, and if you have your own vineyard like I do, then do bring a few bottles of your favorite vintage; it's a tad pricey here at the Systembolaget (besides, they'll turn you away if you're in slippers).

  • This seems to be the same packing tip that I always write, but it makes sense. Dress in layers and take an umbrella with you! Göteborg is a very large city, you will be able to find any kind of clothes and weather gear that you need here.

  • Rain gear as it rains more here, closer to the Gulf stream, than on the Swedish East coast. It can also be windy so umbrella is not always the best...

Plasters and disinfectant if you intend to swim in the rocky archipelago as it is easy to step on the hard 'shell-creatures' on the rocks and get a scratch.

No problem with any of this in the city that invented the Hasselblad camera!

  • The best type of bag is the one you like the most!
But i recommend you to take a back pack.

    Skip the italian leather shoes.
Take shoes that stands both sun and rain

Bring a Gore Tex jacket with you.

Don´t think to much about this.

Remeber you CAN drink the water in the bathroom. So water on a bottle is a little expensive in sweden.

    No problems!

Camping. You can stop and camp almost every where in sweden. You dont have to camp at a camping, but you better read this:

    Waterproof. Ya'll thank me.

Heavy duty rainjacket in the winter. Not so heavy duty rainjacket in the summer. Plenty of socks.

Forget about checks, swedes doesn't use checks like Americans. (all the time that is) Creditcards are ok at most places, but, BUT there are places that doesn't take them, so beware. You might have to do dishes after that nice meal of yours. :) Cash is a good way to go, or at least ask the waiter before ordering if they take your card. (The smaller the place the less likely it is) Carry cash, but not alot. Just make sure you have a ATM card, because there are plenty of ATM machines downtown Gothenburg. (unless you have Minuten, Swedes you can relate! Crappy bank from hell..) But as a non-Swede you wont have that so don't worry.

  • The weather can change a lot within few days or even few hours. So even if you´re travelling during the summer, bring some warm clothing too.

Sensible wear will make your holiday enjoyable

  • You can find most things in Gothenburg, but as it is a pedestrian-friendly city, do bring good walking shoes, so you don't have to look around for those before going sightseeing. Especially if you go out to the archipelago, it is good to have good foot wear, should you want to venture off the beaten paths to explore the hilly islands.

Gothenburg is windy, and the farther towards the coast you go, the windier it tends to be. To keep warm during cool days, bring a wind jacket or similar. Also note that while it may feel hot in the city, because of the wind it may feel much cooler in the archipelago.

Bring a rain coat or waterproof jacket. It can rain any time of year and as it tends to be windy, an umbrella will be of limited use, especially right on the coast or on the islands.
