These yellow "road ferries" simply replace roads where those are not possible to build or where it is not feasible to build bridges. Therefore, they are for free so just catch a bus from Gothenburg's central bus station to Lilla Varholmen and off you go - you can also drive on board if you have a car. No need to book space since they run frequently throughout the day.

The tourist information at Klova harbour (summertime) has bike rental and this is an excellent way to see a rather flat island with little traffic away from the main Hönö-Öckerö main road.
