This whole area is sandwiched between the lakes Torpasjön and Yttre Åsunden. To the north is Torpa Stenhus. To the south is Hofsnås Herrgård. A small single road leads from Torpa Stenhus over a very narrow causeway into the nature reserve. This road winds its way through a heavily wooded area for two or three miles with the lakes visible through the trees on either side. There are numerous areas to stop and leave your car and walk along narrow lanes to the lakes where there is purpose built barbecue areas and access to bath if required. It is very peaceful and secluded with wildlife in abundance all around you. Highly reccomended
This is a very pleasant cafe or rest area or bathing stop. It is open for April until December with series of activities from the Easter festival to Midsummer and then the Christmas Festival.
All through the summer there are various activities orgainised but the best part of the area is the superb bathing in the Lake.
While in Sweden I like to visit as many Rune stones as possible. A number of them have references to battles and people in England which I always find surprising. This rune is by the side of the main road from Unricehamn to Falkoping, close to Dalum
We visited this famous medieval castle which is southeast of Borås.
When we visited they were restoring the great hall walls. This was being done by painstakingly removing the topcoat of white paint and slowly exposing wonderful animal paintings underneath. The paintings were in blue outline.
Once complete the restoration will represent a unique glimpse of the past greatness of the hall.
I could imagine great feasts taking place in the hall in olden days with this fantastic array of native animals peering down from the walls
(Thank you Sjalen for reminding me about Torpa Stenhus)
In our visit to Torpa Stenhus I was intrigued at the ghost story concerning the bricking up live of one of the landowners daughter.
The layout in the dungeon explaining the story was very well done. We half expected her to come into the room, the problem was that she was not bricked up in the dungeon but in a room as you walked up the main stairs.
Visited the bathing area we had spent many hours soaking up the sun. This time the walkways had been hauled onto the land. The lake frozen solid
Returning to Ulricehamn in the winter 2004 the lake we like so much was frozen soild with fishing and a childrens ice hockey match taking place
