Just next to the railway station you will find the monument to the victims of the Gotthard tunnel construction workers. The tunnel was built from 1872 until 1882. The monument was made by Vincenzo Vela (1820-91).
This beautiful church dates back to after the big fire in 1877. During the last renovation fragments, a small crypt, frescoes and coins from varies time periods were found, estimating that the original church goes back to the 6/7th century.
The Roman bell tower is from the 12th century. Take a look inside if you find it the church open as parts of the old altar can still be seen that survived the fire.
