On your hike to the devil’s bridge you will see strange rock faces and wonder what they are. Such hidden things can be found all over the alps and date back to the second world war as well as the cold war when the Swiss felt threatened and built themselves withdrawal places all over the mountains.
Today private people can buy these as they are no longer used. But once upon a time they had whole villages in them with bakeries, hospitals, defence systems, power stations etc.

Andermatt is home to the mountain regiments of Switzerland. A lot of the area belongs to the army and the big Kaserne (barracks) is an Andermatt landmark.

Look at the signs. Mountains here are a culture: summer and winter time. Skiing, hiking, cycling. You got the choice of the mountain.
