From the Geneva Airport website by travelfrosch Geneva's Airport (Code: GVA) is serviced by 67 airlines from Aer Lingus to Varig. Service to/from Geneva is available from a number of countries, including the USA, Canada, India, Thailand, Brazil, and Australia. The airport itself is located in the town of Cointrin, a very short distance from Geneva. Trains depart from the basement level Genève Aéroport station every 15 minutes for Genève Gare Cornavin (a.k.a. Genève Gare Central, or Geneva Central Station). Travel time is approximately 6 minutes. You also have the option of Buses 10, 23, and 28, departing for various destinations in Geneva. Fare is CHF 3.20 for train or bus; obviously it makes little sense to waste a railpass day if you're staying in Geneva. If you plan to travel from the airport beyond Geneva, you can validate your railpass at the CFF (Swiss Rail) desk on the 2nd Level. Hourly Intercity or Eurocity trains depart from Genève Aéroport station for Bern and Brig. From Genève Gare Cornavin, you can make easy connections to many trains, including the high-speed Cisalpino to Milan and the TGV to Paris. Check the website for details on bus service to eastern France. Theme: AirplaneWebsite: www.gva.ch Other Contact: www.unireso.com (French)

Cointrin Airport by Tripackair by Tripack Geneva Airport is approximately 6km from the city centre. How to travel to/from the airport : - By bus : TPG (Geneva Public Transport) bus stops are situated at the departures and arrivals levels. Bus Number 10 goes to the city centre every 10 minutes. Bus Number 18 goes to the UN building every 30 minutes. You can purchase tickets from the machines at the bus stops (please have the correct amount, machines don't give change!). Ticket costs CHF 3.- (60min). - By rail : the underground rail station is located 300m from the airport departures and arrivals levels. All trains stop at Geneva-Cornavin (city centre). The journey takes about 5 minutes, and costs from CHF 3.-. - By taxi : the journey to the city centre will cost between CHF 30-35. 1ST GOOD NEWS : from 2008, Geneva International Airport will be offering every passenger arriving in Geneva a UNIRESO ticket free of charge, valid for 80 minutes in Geneva public tranportation. A ticket machine is installed for that purpose in the baggage reclaim hall. In the event of a ticket inspection on the network, anyone holding this type of ticket will have to show they have an air ticket proving they arrived in Geneva on that day. 2ND GOOD NEWS : since 2007, all visitors staying at a hotel, youth hostel or camping in Geneva can benefit from the Geneva Transport Card, with no additional cost. This personal and non-transferable pass is established upon the visitor’s check-in in the hotel, youth hostel or camping of his (her) choice, enabling its holder to use of the entire public transportation network without restriction (bus, train and boat), with validity for the entire duration of his (her) stay including the departure day. If waiting your flight, I highly recommend to have a drink or a light meal to the Zoulou bar (level 2), you could enjoy a great view on the tarmac and less crowed bar. The Follow-me in front of the Post office (arrival level) is another good and quiet address if you are waiting someone at the airport. Leave a Comment

by orlikins Get this for a stupid itinary - Fly Dublin -London Heathrow - Paris CdeG - Geneva. 12 hours!!! The Paris - Geneva leg of the trip was delayed for 3 hours. And no luggage at the end either! :( [But I got it back the next day]. Flew British Midlands from Dublin to Heathrow and Air France from London via Paris to Geneva. No such thing as direct Dublin-Geneva flights at the time! It was the literally only option the student travel agency gave me at such short notice, so what could I do? It was my first plane trip, my first time on the continent, so I was incredibly nervous...luckily it didnt put me off travelling!! :-) Leave a Comment

by iavormar By Airplane: The International Airport of Geneva offers direct regular services to more than 80 destinations. One among its advantages is its privileged situation at 4,5 km from the town centre. A rail-link makes it possible to reach the centre in only five minutes. The airport has several bars and restaurants, shopping arcades and tax-free shops as well as a centre for businessmen. There are more than 6000 parking places and all the well known car rental companies are represented. There are several hotels near by. It depends on what do you want to use - Transports Publics Genevois (TPG) (at http://www.tpg.ch/) or coach tour operators. The public transport is ok and the city is not so far from the airport. View of the apron from the terrace. by jacob_m The airport of Geneva is called Coitrin and is located just 4 km outside the city center, this means very central. There are trains leaving for the main railway station, if fact all trains leaving Geneva start at the airport and all trains arrving in Gevena continue to the airport. The ticket is cheap and the journey takes not more than five minutes. You can also take the bus to the city center, bus number 10. A ticket costs about CHF 2. There are also directbusses from the airport to other cities like some in France close to the Swiss border. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

A postcard of Swissair plane over Geneva by aliante1981 That is, unless you live just across the French - Swiss border. You’d better walk in that case:))) For the rest of us, not fortunate enough to live that close to Geneva there are more common, traditional options - air travel, for instance. Geneva’s Cointrin International Airport is situated just 20-25 minutes of driving away from the city centre, just close to the commune of Meyrin (that’s were my parents and I stay when in Switzerland), and it receives all the international flights for that region of Switzerland and for the neighbouring departments of France, too. Both national flag carriers (Swiss International Airlines, Alitalia, British Airways, Lufthansa, Emirates, SAS, Aeroflot, Air France, JAL and others) and the cheaper Easyjet provide connections to (among others) London, Athens, Milan, Rome, Tokyo, Moscow, Dubai, Paris, Barcelona, New York, Copenhagen, Cairo and all the rest of major world destinations.
