    La Citadelle: La Citadelle

by mindcrime Written Jan 24, 2014

The rock/metal scene in Geneva is pretty small so it’s good there’s a bar where you can drink some beers while listening to some hard rock/metal tunes. La Citadelle isn’t very big but it’s not crowded so you will find a place to sit easily.

The main problem here is that the music is surprisingly low so we had to stand right under the speaker to listen a bit of the music! Service was very friendly and quick. We drunk beers of course, I started with a crappy Weiss beer (7chf) (it was really bad) and later moved to a Duvel to find a balance :) Nothing better that a good strong golden pale ale.

There’s a small part of the place that is actually a metal store with tshirts, cds, vinyls and other merchandise. For those that are hungry I noticed they have some soups (!) and some people ordered a toasted sandwich which didn’t seem very appealing…

Dress Code: a classic metal t-shirt with your favorite band will be your ID here

Check program on the web. It can get pretty crowded, especiallly after midnight.
Carouge also has many good restaurants and bistrots.

    restaurant/bar: Cactus/manana

    by RedDevil.Ril Written Apr 2, 2007

Cactus is a bar underneath the Manana restaurant just beside Gare Cornavin. I would recommend people to go there because it has a very cozy feeling. Im of course referring to the weekdays..on the weekends its overly packed!its like a bar where everybody knows everybody..the bartenders are friendly and its closing hours are depends all on the amount of people and fun they are all having. Its happy hours all night on monday and tuesday and then till 9 every other day. Great drinks..great people

Dress Code: casual should be enough and of course no one under 18 years old are permitted.

  • Java: Face Control

by Nomadax Written Dec 15, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Well, We tried to go to this discotheque, It is just a little dificult to find, Java is in front of the Hilton Hotel in the river side, just under the road. This place was recomended to me by a friend. But they have the typical face control with the usual stupid excuse that you need an invitation or a VIP card, so as foreigner we seem not to reach their requisites.
So if you are a foreiner in Geneve stay away from this place is the usual closemind place ; you will spend your time to find it ,just to realise that you dont seem to meet their target and you will loose your time.

    Qu'importe...: Pour une nuit d'ivresse...

by Tripack Written Sep 16, 2006

    Qu'importe le flacon pourvu qu'on ait l'ivresse!

An excellent and cosy wine bar in the center of the relaxing Carouge area. A fine wine selection and some tapas is waiting for your papillae: I would recommend and taste the Renaissance to discover a fruitly and sunny nectar from the Domaine Viret (Côtes du Rhône, South East of France). The powerful and exquisite Grenache will promise you a cheerful tasting... A consommer avec modération toutefois ;-)

    A great Renaissance...

    Le Baroque: Fancy but boring

by redsaga Written Aug 19, 2005

I was walking the streets of Geneve without finding one nightclub that seemed to be in my taste and finally I ended up at this place. The interiour and decorations is fancy and the Long Island Icetea was superb, but I can't really recomment this place. I came alone and had a hard time to talk to people (except for an italian man in his sixties that wanted to buy me champagne and spaghetti.. I said no thanks), but I'm sure it would be a lot more fun if you're a group of friends going out. The music was okay even though it was a bit too commercial for my taste.

Dress Code: This is a fancy place and I don't think you'll get in with sneakers. No harm in asking though.

  • Not too much in the way of Clubs

    by klubkidd80 Written May 2, 2005

We struggled to find a place to go which wasn't a restaurant or a cafe. There were not too many clubs to choose from and from what I heard from locals, many people make their way to Lausanne for partying. I didn't take that trip I'm afraid, so I can't really comment.

Dress Code: The one private party we ended up at was very strict on attire. Everyone was very smart and well dressed. Trousers and proper shoes. Nothing scruffy or dingy and definately no jeans.
