I must say this was the highlight of our trip to Switzerland. Located about 2 miles south of Montreux on Lake Geneva. The castle is jaw dropping in beauty. The views are spectacular. Once inside one can do a self guided tour of more than 40 rooms. We spent more than 3 hours going into all the rooms ... well worth the trip here .....
Admission price was 12 CHF
Getting to the Chateau Chillon is simple .... one can either take a train to Montreux from Geneva and then walk on the waterfront about 2 miles to the castle or take a train to Lausanne and switched over to a train to Veytaux-Chillon which drops you off about 500 yards away.
Excellent day trip from Geneva !!!! If you have the time do it you will not regret it !!!!!
This is a great thing to do on a cloudy day. Enjoy a lazy time on Lake Geneva and make your way to Château Chillon. The castle has a long and storied history (go to the castle to get details! ;). For example, Lord Byron carved some graffiti here. A good (and free) brochure is provided with your entry ticket.

On the coast of lake LeMans, one hour from down town Geneva, you find this amazing work of art. The castle has a long history and special events occurred here.
The story tells that one stormy afternoon, the poet Lord Byron and Percy Shelly were on a boat in the lake. They were living on the other side of the coast, renting a famous house. The night was falling and they were in this boat and all of the sudden they saw a majectic castle. They decided to stop by there and the guard welcomed them to stay and told them the stories of the castle. The story of the prisoner who stayed in the castle for 4 years. Lord Byron felt the story was fantactic and then wrote a poem about the prisoner.

The Château de Chillon on the shore of Lake Geneva has stood in its strategic position watching the road to Italy for nearly a thousand years, although most of the castle that visitors see today was built by the Counts of Savoy in the 13th and 14th centuries. For the last 200 years the castle has belonged to the local authorities, who have carefully restored it and made it one of Switzerland's most visited attractions. The castle hosts many exhibitions and concerts.
