    TPG Transport Public Genevois
  • Tip Rating:

  • Geneva offers an extensive public transports network named TPG. A good way to travel around Geneva without stress. The City is currently building a new tram line to Meyrin-CERN to solve the traffic congestion (2006-08).

Driving by cars inside the city could be tricky due to traffic jam during peaks hours, to find a car park (quite expensive) or as you need to own a special pass (only available for inhabitant areas) to stay in blue park zone.

Which ticket to choose (NB: automatic ticket machine don't give change):
    - The One hour ticket for CHF 3.-
    - The 9AM - Midnight card for CHF 7.- to travel freely from 9 a.m. to midnight
    - Special Tourist 24 hours card for CHF 10.- for unlimited number of journeys. SA-SU valid for 2 passengers at full fare.
    - Special Tourist 48 hours card for CHF 20.-
    - Special Tourist 72 hours card for CHF 30.-

The tourist card can be obtained from unireso vendors and is also available at :
    - the airport counter
    - authorised hotels
    - The Tourism Office.

Reduction available for kids, Swiss Half card...

GOOD NEWS : since 2007, all visitors staying at a hotel, youth hostel or camping in Geneva can benefit from the Geneva Transport Card, with no additional cost. This personal and non-transferable pass is established upon the visitor’s check-in in the hotel, youth hostel or camping of his (her) choice, enabling its holder to use of the entire public transportation network without restriction (bus, train and boat), with validity for the entire duration of his (her) stay including the departure day.

If it's too far to walk, take a bus
  • Tip Rating:
  • Taxis in Geneva are expensive and you can walk to most sights in town centre but if it's too far to walk, then the buses in Geneva are clean, warm and on time. See www.tpg.ch for routes and timetables or visit the TPG office in Cornavin railway station to get the bus map and advice on which pass best meets your needs. If you don't buy a pass, single tickets are bought from machines at bus stops (the machines don't give change, so have the exact change ready!). As of January 2004, the prices are 2.20 for 1 zone, 2.60 for 2 zones and 4.60 for 3 zones. A monthly pass costs 70 CHF and a weekly pass is 35 CHF. Discounts for students and children.

    Take a Cruise
  • Tip Rating:
  • The best thing we did while we were in Geneva was to take a boat cruise. They take you around Lake Leman and show you some famous sites like the mermaid, famous people's house, the town, etc. It gives you a good history and is very relaxing and fun. There are many to choose from, so I am sure there will be one to fit your budget. Make sure to ask for the booklet in your own language.

    Cable Car
  • Tip Rating:

  • It takes you up to the 1380 metres high mountain peak within a few minutes which one is located nearby the French border. The panorama and the view is the best you can get a great view to the lake and the snow covered mountain peaks opposite the place. Also nice place for hiking, walking, paragliding. Tickets cost CHF 16,8 for adults.

    Train from the Airport
  • Tip Rating:
  • On arrival at Geneva airport, the simplest way to get to the city centre is use the train. It seems that every train from the airprot, travels for 6 minutes and then arrives at Geneva Railway station.

There are automnated ticket machines, and a one way ticket is reasonably cheap, and at the time of writing it was around 3 ChF.

    Walking Around
  • Tip Rating:

  • The best and easiest way of transportation in the centre, easy to get around and visit the most popular spots of Geneva unless you wanna see the Rose Garden which is located in the other side of the town...but also can be approachable in 15 minutes..and beautiful. So if the weather is nice let's choose walking. The lakeside is fantastic!

Visiting French Alps cities from Geneva by bus
  • Tip Rating:
  • From the Bus Station (Gare Routiere) of Geneva, you can visit the beautiful French neighbor cities, such as Annecy, Chamonix, Megeve, Flaine, St. Gervais, Les Contamines. With the exception of Annecy (Lake and old city), others are popular ski cities in the French Alps. In the summer these cities have also beautiful mountains and lakes to visit and climb. The cost of busses is around 30 Swiss Frances for a round rip.
