    The Cafe Romand is an old brasserie very famous in Lausanne. It's situated in the very center of town and serves the typical local dishes of the region.

    It's a very popular place always packed with locals, from students to retired people, so even if you don't come to eat you might want to just come and have a coffee and check it out.

    The daily specials are always a good recommendation as they tend to be excellent but are also cheaper ($11). Their specialties that I would recommend are the cheese fondue, choucroutes (sauerkraut), sausage with papet de poireaux (leeks with potatoes), etc...

    The Creperie is located in Ouchy, the lakeside neighborhood of Lausanne, right accross the street from the Castle. They have a nice little terrace during the warm days, where you can eat delicious sweet and/or salty crepes and enjoy the view!

    The costumers tend to be locals and lots of students come here.

    The crepes ALL of them! ;-)

  • This Italian restaurant serves excellent food in a very family-like atmosphere. The staff is nice and helpful and its costumers are locals from the neighborhood.

    The restaurant is located a few minutes away from Lausanne (by car or by bus) and it's located in a secluded area, close to fields and forest. It's hard to imagine you are so close to the city!

    It's a very nice restaurant with gastronomic cuisine and they have a large wine card. It's perfect for a special occasion... The place is nice, but could be renovated a bit, specially the reception area.

    There is a lovely terrasse too.

    In the fall, they have "chasse" (game) which is also apparently very good, although I haven't tasted it.

    They also have rooms, so that way you don't have to worry about having to drive home.

    Everything looks excellent on the menu, and the plates we saw on other people's tables made our mouth water...

    We chose the Menu "Le Gourmand", which you can find on their website.

    No special dress code.

    Delicious food with an original touch. Most products are from the farm next door, so tasty and fresh.

    The building is like a mantion. Indoors, cosy, classy rooms. There is also a fire-place in one. Outdoors terrace with lucious gardens and glimpse of the lake.

    The menus are inexpensive for the quality of the cuisine, and allow you to taste different aromas that all fit in together.

    Try the original home made ice cream.

    I have requested to have dinner at a local eatery and the owner of the inn where I was staying insisted I should eat here if I don't mind walking for 20mins from the hotel.

    The decor wasn't anything fanciful, very local and cosy feeling. It has a very small 'garden' infront of the main entrance. Only had 1 main waiter serving the whole restaurant, about 10 tables perhaps. They even welcome big groups.

    My favourite dish is the Beef on grill. The grill they use does keep the french fries crispy till the end of your dinner + they serve you with 4-5 dipping sauces.
    They specialise in Beef Fillets or Entrecote, Steak Tartare and BBQ Beef.

    If I don't recall wrongly, the price was very reasonable. I can't really eremember how much it costs comparatively but you may call and check it out if interested.

  • Chez Mario is probably the best known pizzeria in Lausanne, an institution I dare say. Located right on the pedestrian and commercial Rue de Bourg, the atmosphere is perfect for a dinner with friends, a business meal, as well as a romantic date.

    The food is excellent, the prices cheap, the service friendly and fast. A very locals hang-out, going from students to business men and families.

    The pizzas is my favourite but they also serve other Italian specialties such as pastas, fish and meat.

    Go for Movenpick ice-cream in Movenpick restaurant.
    We took the biggest dessert they had and althought it really was delicious we couldn't cope with it. What would I do to have this dessert in front of me now....

    Tast the international food in the Festival in the hudge area bording the Léman Lake. The choise is big, from Swiss raclettes to exotic Chinese going through Turkish, Indian, American and much much more !!!
