Lausanne is a very eco orientated town. This means cars are not really welcome. In town centre, most parking spaces are charged.
Underground parkings in town are EXPENSIVE! The mere fact of going in then going out straight after will often already cost you about 1.00 Swiss Franc.
Fun Alternatives: Note that:
1- Sundays and nights, most outdoor paying parking places are free, check the times.
2- If you go to the Flon area to the Europlex cinemas and park your car in the underground car park, make sure you stamp the parking card at the cinema. Your fee will be blocked at 3.00 Swiss Francs
3- Still about the Flon: the Flon underground car park is VERY EXPENSIVE. If you are on the Rue de Genève, just opposite the entrance to the Flon Underground car park, a little road curves up. There are two other underground car parks there. Go to the one right at the end of the road, it's much cheaper.

You might miss many city's attractions if you meet some great street performers showing Capoeira like those Brazilian guys on the way. They were really good.
