Lausanne Things to Do

  • Cathedrale Notre Dame

One of the most beautiful Gothic structures in Europe, Lausanne Cathedral stands ,150m above Lake Geneva. Construction on the cathedral began in 1175; in 1275 it was consecrated by Pope Gregory X. The architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc began a restoration of the cathedral in the 19th century -- and it is still going on! The doors and façade of the...

Located in the Olympic Park in Ouchy, the Olympic Museum was opened in 1993. It was architectonically designed and built not only considering its location near the lake, but also with some Greek heritage included (there are six colums before the entrance of the Museum, similar to those of Zeus temple). The Olympic Museum contains the history of the...

  • The Great Escape

This was a lovely noisy sports pub in the Old Town, not far from the Cathedral that we could enjoy a beer or 2. I wouldn’t even notice it from outside but my friend have been there before. Once inside we noticed that it was almost packed with happy people that were chatting or watching sports on the big screen. Funny atmosphere in general with rock...

We visited Les Docks to attend Inferno Festival on march 2013. For 2 nights some famous metal bands played at this club. • KAI ZEN

Kai Zen is without a doubt my favourite hangout in Lausanne. The concept is quite original in the sense that the restaurant and bar menus revolve around 5 major cities around the world and their authentic cuisine (New York, Tokyo, Rome, Paris, Bangkok). The interior design of Kai Zen changes regularly: "Kaizen" is an actual philosophy involving...

Globus appears to be THE department store in Lausanne. It is somewhat upscale, and has a number of pricey fashions, as well as other standard department store items such as kitchen/bathroom/household goods. Lausanne Warnings and Dangers

  • Kids in Lausanne

We had a very bad experience in Lausanne with our kids. I would especially avoid the Creperie d'Ouchy there. We were asked to leave before them even serving us because our 14-month old daughter was hungry and was crying. Apparently that is not appropriate in a Creperie in Lausanne at late lunch time!!

  • Places to avoid in town center at night

Personnally, I would avoid the area between Place de la Riponne, Place St Laurent and the Bel Air area, especially if you are alone and a woman.Place St Laurent has always attracted strange people, but there are usually police around.Usually nothing happens, people just convey an uneasy feeling. But I have known of rare cases of light agressions,...
