Nyon Things to Do

  • Gardens of La Duche

When you walk along the lake side and follow the sign "Escaliers de la Duche", you will end up climbing the municipal gardens of La Duche. You can take the other way round: Instead of climbing up from the lake side, you can go down to the lake side from the castle via the gardens. While walking randomly, you'd also come across Bourg de Rive Park...

  • Nyon Castle

This is what I love about European cities: Castles. Nyon has its very own five-tower castle that watches Lac Leman. It was built in the last quarter of the 16th century and went through restoration from 1999 to 2006. I was there on a Sunday afternoon. Normally the castle is closed only on Mondays but on that specific day it was closed as well due...

  • Walking along the lake

Come down the the lake side from the Nyon castle, You will see a small lake-side village with shops, restaurants and cafes. You will enjoy your walking here-pleasant and beautiful!

  • Nyon castle

If you walk from the train station towards the lake, you will come to the Castle. Its a small but a beautiful white castle. The lake and the old town views from the castle is superb. You can see the lake and the French towns far away across it.

  • Roman Heritage

Nyon traces its history back to the Roman days. The Roman settlement was actually established by Julius Ceasar. As statue of him can be found in Nyon. There is a museum dealing with the Roman period, and this is adjacent to the site of the old forum. A short walk from the museum will lead to an overlook area with a couple of standing Roman columns....

  • The Chateau

In the center of town is a chateau. It contains what appears to be a modern art museum. Sculptures and other forms of art can be found inside and out the building. The views from the lakeside are very nice. The side away from the lake is actually the town square. The chateau is very easy to spot from the lake, and it should be a short walk from...

That's the most pleasant thing to do after you see various Roman attractions . Go to the lakeshore promenade, and there will be magnificent views over Lake Geneva (Lac Leman) and the Alps on the other shore of it.

You'll see as far as France for sure, or may be even as far as Italy??

Nice old town with a pleasant promenade; the castle, the Roman antiquities/remains and the museum about Lac Leman or Lake Geneva
