 sandysmith Says:  Fiescheralp or Kühboden to give its alternative name is a winter and alpine resort high above the town of Fiesch in the Rhone Valley - some 20 minutes bus/train ride from Brig. Its reached by gondola from Fiesch and is a popular place for hiking in the summer and for taking... 

 sandysmith Says:  Bettmeralp is situated 1150 m (3,770 ft) above the eastern Rhône valley, its a purpose built tourist holiday village. Its car free so can only be reached by gondola from the valley station of Betten. Its a cluster of hotels and holiday chalets and restaurants - a bit too... 

 sandysmith Says:  Riederalp is situated 1150 m (3,770 ft) above the eastern Rhône valley and like Fiescheralp and Bettmeralp is a touristic traffic free resort - reached by gondola from Reid Morel and Morel (direct and indirect service either side of a ravine. To me it looked the better of... 

 sandysmith Says:  Enjoy the scenery and many paths around the alpine lake of Bettmeralp - Bettmersee. MAny paths criss-cross this lake - can bathe here too in the summer. A smaller lake, a bit higher up is nearby - the Blausee. An ideal short hike is to take a chairlift up to Schonnbuel and... 

 sandysmith Says:  For amazing views of the Grosser Aletsch Glacier then a trip up the Bettmerhorn - whether hiked up or wisked up by the handy gondola - is not to be missed. Wonderful glacier and alpine views and also make other hiking routes can be taken from here to enjoy even closer views....

 sandysmith Says:  The resorts are reached from Brig on the red trains of the Furka Oberalp Bahn (FOB) towards Andermatt in less than 30 minutes by train or bus (certain times during the day and evening after 7pm the bus replaces the train service)....but once there what about all the aerial... 

 sandysmith Says:  Saw quite a few gliders around the Alps - the pilot must have had stunning views when we had such clear weather - several days the Matterhorn stood out clear amongst the Valasian Alps.Wish I could have been up there too. 

 sandysmith Says:  Just a couple of train stops from Fiesch in the Oberwald direction is the little station of Furgangen - not much her in itself but the train co-incides with the operation of a small gondola that goes up to the village of Bellwald. Bellwald is the highest village in Goms, or... 

 sandysmith Says:  For me this was THE hike to do in this area - the one we had seen on the cover of our hiking map. We had waiting until our last day in Fiesch to have perfect weather for this hike and to make it even more memorable it was Swiss National Day. Its a longish hike - 5.5 hours... 

 sandysmith Says:  Revitalised with our hearty lunch of Rosti we continued on our way. From the Gletscherstube it said 2 hours to Moosfluh were we hoped to catch a gondola down rather than a tiring descent to Bettmeralp. We soon reached another lake(pic 1), beyond which were tantalising...
