In December 2001 UNESCO decided to place the Alp's longest glacier, the Aletsch on their list. It is quite easy to take a look at this glacier since the Moosfluh lift will take you up there. From here you have a magnificient view over the glacier. On sunny days the Aletsch glacier looks even more beautiful then ever!!
From this spot you also have a great panoramic view over the mountains opposite the glacier. There is a picture up there near the glacier that mentions all the mountains!
Villa Cassel is centrally located in the Aletsch area. That is why it was chosen as main office of the UNESCO Altesch area.
Inside the house is also Pro Natura. Pro Natura is a private non-profit organization founded in 1909. It's the largest conservation organisation in Switzerland. Pro Natura was founded to create the only Swiss National Park in 1914 and has since helped to establish half of all protected areas in Switzerland. The creation and management of reserves is still one of the main tasks of Pro Natura.
It is very worthwhile to pay a visit to this house and take a look at what they do. There are always exhibitions inside the house and in the summertime the gardens of the house show you many beautiful flowers!

The longest glacier in The Alps...
The Great Aletsch glacier and the UNESCO World Heritage site Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn
No matter whether you are at Moosfluh, Bettmerhorn, or Eggishorn, the view of the Aletsch glacier is unique: you can admire the glacier from up above with a gorgeous view of the enormous stream of ice. This is quite unusual because anywhere else in the Alps you usually have to look up to a glacier. Another impressive fact about the Aletsch glacier is its length: at 23 kilometers (75,463 ft), the Aletsch glacier is the longest stream of ice in the Alps. The catchment area in the Jungfrau region lies at about 4,000 m (13,124 ft) above sea level; the glacier cave in the Massa gorge is about 2,500 m (8,202 ft) lower. Good value tip:
For a one day trip, ask for the Bettmerhorn package which includes a round trip to the Bettmerhorn and the special of the day at the Bettmerhorn mountain restaurant (from July to September CHF 39.-/ CHF 30 with Half-fare Card/CHF 20 for children).
