Snowboarding is also very popular here. In the season this place would be busy - Saas Fee struck me as quite a young and trendy place for snowboarders and there are plenty of cafe and bars around like this one -the Popcorn Plaza (linked to Hotel Dom) situated by the panorama viewpoint at Längfluh. For us though it was peaceful as we enjoyed the magnificent glacier views.

A gorge separates Saas Fee and Saas Grund and for the adventurous types a descent of the gorge can be made with the mountain guides who will supply all the necessary safety equipment too. The so-called Gorge Alpin is a "Path" among air, water and rocks - there is no water contact.
Its starts from the entrance near the old glacier bridge in Saas Fee where we peered down into the gorge and saw the rock steps and narrow boards that begin the descent.. Steep rock walls are crossed via ladders, tree trunks and rocks. The most exciting parts are the "Tyrollonnes", rope lifts à la James Bond, sliding from one side of the gorge to the other, secured by a mountain guide. We gave this is a miss - its quite expesive at 100SFr for the whole gorge but it certainly looked interesting - night descents can also be made.

Take the metro Alpin ride to enjoy summer ski-ing in this wonderful scenic area. Season usually starts at the beginning of July - pistes were being prepared during our visit in 2004 - and conditions are usually good until mid-afternoon when the sun makes the slopes more slushy.

Saas Fee has excellent slopes. The ski area consist of 100km slopes.
Due to its altitude snow is guaranteed. It is also possible to ski/snowboard here in summer.
It has a snowboardpark. In winter this is located near the egginer-skilift and in summer next to the lower allalin-skilift.
