In the centre of Saas Grund there are two churches a more modern looking one (just by the central bus stop) but across the road to this one is an older one (next to the tourist office). It had an unusual square tower with its statue on top and an imaculately kept cemetry with old gravestones.
Table the gondola to Hohsaas to a height of 3300m. The landscape is quite rocky and barren, steep trails up here too along the mountain ridges, but the views of the Hohlaubgletscher are amazing. Again a mountain hut tempts you with its sun terrace - just make sure you have some sunscreen!
Take the gondola near the centre of Saas Grund up to Kreuzboden. Even if you can't tackle the walks in this area at least enjoy the fabulous alpine view. Looking across to Saas Fee you can see the glaciers radiating out like an oyster shell with Saas Fee the pearl at its base.
It really is worth a trip on the cable-cars up to Hohsaas - just look at the glacier views you can get - almost within touching distance.
There is a restaurant with a good viewing terrace at Kreuzboden but the nearby lake is a perfect spot for an al fresco picnic with the backdrop of the Saas Fee glaciers.
Just near the centre of Saas Grund you can see a llama farm - you'll probably even smell it first! The baby ones were really cute though and such a sweet face.
