  • Gornergrat

    3.5 out of 5 stars

    Zermatt Things to Do

Gornergrat is a Swiss montain with an altitude of 3,085 meters above sea level. The journey takes you in around 40 minutes and accessible the whole year. The rack railway which is built in 1898 and incidentally the first electric railway of its kind in the country winds its way up the mountain from the village of Zermatt. The ride offers wonderful...

    Zermatt Things to Do

Matterhorn is the largest icon in Switzerland and one of the most photographed mountain. Haven for climbers and for viewers, an amazing and stunning spot. The perfect area to catch some good captures is more probably from Gornergrat, but, the other perspective can be viewed from Klein Matterhorn.

    Zermatt Things to Do

The best thing to do on a visit to Zermatt is to get up into the mountains, and the ultimate place to do this is at the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. At 3,883 metres above sea level, this is the highest sightseeing point in Europe which is accessible by cableway. One of the best things for me was the journey to get up there. It started with a trip...

    Zermatt Things to Do

Whilst hiking above Sunnegga we took many photos, some good, others better. However these 2 shown below show how cold and rugged the snowfields can be. With my large Canon lens I could not pick up any human movement across the valley.

  • St. Mauritius Church

    Zermatt Things to Do

The Catholic church is situated in the main town square and dominates the skyline of Zermatt. I couldn't find out much about its history, but it was beautiful both on the inside and out. I loved hearing the bells ringing from my hotel room two blocks away.

    Zermatt Things to Do

Continue walking downhill from the Mountaineers' Cemetery and you will see on the left side of the road this beautiful little Church and cemetery. We only had time for photos as we were walking to the Funicular station to take the ride up to Sunnegga, hopefully to catch the Matterhorn peak before it is covered by cloud.

Hinterdorf is the oldest part of Zermatt where you can still find a few of the old wooden houses dating back to the 17th and even 16th century.
