    Go skiing...

Skiing in Zinal offer you a breathtaking panorama on the Alps. You could even see the summit of Matterhorn and numerous other 4000m peaks.

To access to the main skiing area you should take a cable car from Zinal up to Sorebois (2440m), be aware that if there is many skiers you should queue for quite a time, personnaly I wait 30mn before taking the cabin :-( Second inconvenient when you are going back to Zinal via downhill slope (red or black) you should walk, skating or push on your sticks on 500meters before reaching the departure station.

But once up to Sorebois, many nice slopes and freeride area are waiting you, there you could reach the highest point is the Corne de Sorebois at 2880m by two modern chairlifts built in 2002 and 2004. You could even reach Grimentz skiing area by ski and come back with the free shuttle, do not forget that you ski pass is valid everywhere in the Val d'anniviers (Zinal, Grimentz, Vercorin, St-Luc and Chandolin).

    Enjoy your suny skiing day!

    The Moiry Dam

    The Moiry Dam

The shape of the dead end alpine valley offer good opportunities to built hydroelectrical facilities as dams, May be you already read my tip on my Swiss page about the highest dm in Europe La Grande Dixence. You will find close to Zinal and Grimentz the Moiry Dam, which was built from 1954 to 1958.

You could see the level of the lake at the low level due to the fact that dam is producing electricity in winter especially at peak hour when price paid is higher. In spring and summer, the snow and glacier are melting and fill up the dam.

A dam visit is worth to understand the production of this clean and renewal energy and offer hiking possibilities around the dam lake. I always remember as I was impressed and felt so tiny when visiting Alpine dams when I was young.

Summer in the Alps offer many posibilities about hiking.

Head to the Zinal tourist information desk to get a free map to discover the pedestrian tracks around the area. Or you could take the cable car up to Sorebois (2440m) a good departure point for less physical hiking down to Zinal or to the Moiry dam and Grimentz.

An impressive and spectacular bird will flight over your head when skiing or having a break on the teracce... Paragliding is popular over the Alps in Summer as in Winter. You could keep your skis, heading down the slope and taken off after a quick run. And now you are surfing in the air.. a great experience.
