This is my favourite place in Ascona to have a take-away ice cream. Two scoops in a waffer cone or a little container cost CHF 6.00 (May 2009). I had mocca and fiore di latte which was delicious. They make their ice cream themselves.
The place itself looks very popular as it was full and there was a relaxed atmosphere.
Each time I go to Ascona I have an ice cream :))
Great place for Pizza and other local & italian food.
Great selection of wines. Locals drink it from the typical Boccalino
Favorite Dish: Pizza Salame Piccante with a Boccalino filled with Merlot del Ticino
and our son loves the bunny.shaped kids pizza
The main reason for dinning at Hotel Tamaro was because I wanted to catch a live jazz band playing over brunch. Personally I find it was very expensive given it was a buffet but the spread was very limited. For the price you pay, it wasn't value for money. But the band was good hence I took it as paying "extra" for the live music.
Favorite Dish: No special dish but the service was very good. Mainly from foreign interns studying Hotel Management in Switzerland.
Moreover the ambience was nice. It felt like having brunch in a garden.
There is no menu - you just eat whatever they're cooking that night. It's all local produce, freshly prepared. I can't remember how many courses we had, but there was cheese and salami, chicken, pasta, meat and others. All the wine was local, poured into spare bottles from a large barrel in the corner. The staff were very friendly and did their utmost to ensure we had a great meal.
