Piazza del Sole is a totally flat square right below Castelgrande that is used for various festivities and performances. In fact it is nothing else than the top of a giant garage underneath and these 4 "boxes" made of concrete are the entrances to this public garage in the very centre of the city.

Casa del Populo / house of the people is the name of this building with some interesting architecture and you will find it in a distance of about 100 meters from the trainstation of Bellinzona. Take a look at this great art-nouveau facade !

There is a great cannon shown opposite of the tourist-information and there are also lots of paintings of old scenes of Bellinzona`s history right under the arcades of the innercourt of Palazzo Civico, the townhall of Bellinzona.

Piazza Collegiata is a nice square with some interesting buildings and you will find it between the Palazzo Civico and Piazza del Sole. You will also find some nice garden-restaurants there and my favorite building was the one on my main photo, that you will find next to the church Collegiata dei SS Pietro e Stefano .

In 1995 a group of railway freaks started to operate the dead railway line from Castione to Cama as a museum train. They do this real nicely, with old tickets, conductors with a great enthusiasm and fun.
Some facts for the specialist:
Gauge: 1000 mm
max. inclination: 50 0/00
served line: Castione – Grono – Cama: 13 km
Check the website for operating hours and more details.

The Ticino has several rivers which are offering great places to relax and cool down during hot summerdays.
Some of the rivers are: Ticino, Moesa, Maggia, Verzasca, etc.
BUT CAREFULL: Some of this rivers are supplied by water from power plants, the water level can increase drastically within a short time, obay the signs!
