Nothing stirs in chiasso for nmost of the year... it's really as dull as a place can get... and then, for abot 4 glorious days, the town comes alive for Carnival - the local version is called "nebbiopoli" (fog-land). If you don't believe me, ask Piccolina on VT. These 4 carnival days there is music, dancing in the streets, parades, people wearing costumes... and lots of booze. Some of the traditionals carnival bands performing are "i grezz" (the rude ones) and "sbodaurecc" (moving ears). Their websites are sadly only in italian, but you can get a feeeling of their music by simply looking at their pics
in case you're checking the second address, surf through this: soci->sousafoni->yari zucchetti. You'll see one of my former students - not the best of the lot, but for sure the funniest and craziest
In Chiasso main square, there's (as in every city or town in Switzerland) Mövenpick. Here you can drink or eat something or taste the famous mövenpick icecreams.
Quite expensive (almost for italians), but very typical!
Quite closed to the main square, there's the city library.
The library is small and not very frequented, but nice.
