erbe di campo, white spells, budda, sticky fingers: marijuana shops
The shops' names are just 4 examples of marijuana shops' names... but there are several others in this little town: upon last count there were 25 - but new ones open every day - and old ones get closed every day by the police.
Surprised to see marijuana shops in switzerland? don't be! Officially they only sell side-products - like beer, soaps, t shirts... and perfumed bags. Now the great thing about this perfumed bags is that they contain no little holes, so you really can't smell the perfume.. however, if u were to cut the bag open, then you would enjoy the fragrance. You were only going to smell it and not smoke it, right??? that's what we all do!
Seriously - while many swiss youngsters smoke joints, such a concentration of marijuana shops would be unjustified for the size of chiasso. oen would then assume that italian people would cross the border to do their shopping - and then head back home. Yes, for them it's illegal, yes they can get arrested, and yes - they do get arrested on a daily basis (do u think the border officers don't know?)... but still some persevere - and fill up the headline of our newspapers. Thanks for the news, guys...
What to buy: marijuana beer, soaps, ice.tea, t-shirt, handbags, shampoo, incense... anything actually - but particularly perfumed-bags. Budda also serves as an internet point - in case you'd like to write home about your purchases
What to pay: no idea - it's not my sort of shops

Now, it's not so convenient, but you can still find nice things.
