GANDRIA-THE FISHERMEN'S VILLAGE BUILT ON THE ROCKS
Favorite thing: No one visiting Lugano should miss Gandria,a very original fishermen's village ,built near the lakeside. The houses look as if these were built one upon the other,
as the small surface was used properly,to
have as many houses as possible there..No beach, the boats enter directly to the entrance of the houses,no cars of course there, but instead much flowers and plants.
A joke says that Gandrians never can lie fully horizontally in bed, this position being
possible only when they reach the cemetery.
Of course a joke, but which shows that Gandrians have good sense of humour
Gandria has only abt.219 inhabitants, but several hotels and restaurants, which of course are not cheap at all.But from the window of a hotel or restaurant the scenery you see is terrific. The small village hosts also carnivals, painting competitions and many other events.
It is not easy to visit Gandria,as practically there are no streets,so you have to walk through the private proprty courts of the inhabitants. They allow tourists to pass by their courts,if these are just passing by.
I recommend a visit to Gandria,as without seeing it,the trip to Ticino cannot be complete.
Gandria is usually the last stop in Ticino,it was the same for us ,because from there we headed to the Lake of Como, passing again the Italian border.
Fondest memory: fondest memories from Ticino:

home sweet home
Favorite thing: it's the place i call my home: a mix of Italian and Swiss charm that's hard to resist. It's also called by other's swiss "sonnenstube" (the sunny room) because our weather's very mild... to give you an idea: palm trees and mountain dot the local landscape. But there are also pine trees and snow.
Fondest memory: Everywhere and anywhere. Places to visit are Lugano (with sidetrips to Monte Brè, Monte San Salvatore, Monte Lema, Gandria, Morcote), Locarno (with sidetrips to the velleys: Maggia, Lavertezzo, Centovalli), Bellinzona for its castles, and the upper valleys (for example Leventina, just before the Gotthard Pass and Tunnel)
