Italian oaza in Switzerland
Nice atmosphere and summer weather longer then in many other parts of Switzerland. Main architecture influence and language here is Italian. The touristic signs and all information boards are in Italian only. On touristic offices you can find a English speakers but mostly information books and brochures are on Italian only. There is many tourists are here, especial in summer.

the sculpture trail - Nag Arnoldi 2003
All along the lakeside, and also in town, there are many sculpture to be seen - open air and year round. If you're into modern sculpture, remember that until 10 october 2003 there's a huge exhibit on the local artist Nag Arnoldi: you can find his bizarre statues all over. To describe his style: round shapes similar to those of the italian Pomodoro, and rough elongated shapes similar to those of Giacometti. Definitely worth seeing!

the Pardo festival is a film festival which takes place every year at the beginning of august. it usually lasts 10 days and shows plenty of interesting non-commercial films. it's also a good time to be in locarno because the nightlife gets buzzing and there are plenty of parties all over. the most important films, especially those that compete, are shown in the main square: the architectural background is simply amazing, believe me! If you are a movie buff you'll probably know that the pardo festival is one of the top film festivals (together with cannes, venice, berlin and so on).
Do not ask me please, I simply do not know hot to use such a universal hi-engineered power outlet :-)))
Even though Locarno is in Switzerland, all the signs were in Italian, and was the spoken language of choice--mamma mia!
