This beautiful park by the lake is well worth a stroll around. In the park is the Cilla Ciani, public toilets, a playground, benches for a rest etc. The park is open from March till October from 6.30 - 23.30 and from November till February from 7-21.

Parco Civico is a 63 000 square metre big park by the lake. It is often called Parco Ciani after Villa Ciani, which is a mansion in the park The villa is now housing the Museo Civico di Belle Arti, a museum with a collection of 15th - 20th century paintings. I visited Lugano on a Monday so the museum was closed.
Parco Civico is situated just west of the city centre. Here you can have a lovely walk among big tress, just by the lake. I have heard there are a lot of flowers in the park summertime, but I visited before that season.

    Parco Civico/Ciani Municipal Park

This is a beautiful park north of the town centre. It spreads along the fronts of the lake, and it is a fantastic place. There are wonderful flowerbeds, and to see the colourful, bright flowers against the background of the green lake and the mountains is stunning. The plants are mostly mediterranean, and thus the atmosphere is just beautiful.

The park was named after the brothers Ciani, who built the villa that is located here.

The park was not as big as I thought, though - some descriptions make it sound as if it is huge, but that is not the case, in fact I found it quite small once we had wondered through.
What was a problem for us on this hot afternoon was that there is not much shade, and the benches that are in the shade are of course occupied when it is crowded - it took a lot of searching until we were lucky and finally found a shady place to sit.

Apart from this we totally enjoyed this place.

    The Grounds of Parco Civico

by Mikebb Updated Jan 23, 2015

A beautiful large park located lake side. Excellent walking paths take you throughout the park which when we visited in June had colourful garden beds, lush green lawns, many magnificent large trees.

From most sections of the park we could see glimpses of Lake Lugano.

Inside the park is the Villa Ciani which was not open when we visited. We also took photos of the restored boathouse.
