Swiss Miniatur, Lugano

I never thought that this would be an attraction that would interest be much....BUT, how wrong could I be. IWe loved it and spent nearly the whole day there - the attention to detail is amazing and I am so fascinated about all the places that we should visit on our next trip through Switzerland. This is something for young and the old - worth travelling out of the way for, We also enjoyed the boat ride as well, which took us close to the entrance.

We will go back again.
Take a picnic with you and enjoy this near the lake - the food inside is ok for kids but we took a good picnic from the Manor supermarket with us!

Swissminiatur was opened in 1959. The area for the realization of the project was chosen in first instance for the beauty of its landscape choreography and for its climate.

Garden-enthusiasts will find more than 1500 different plants and over 15000 flowers.
Inside you will find more than 120 models representing the patrician houses, the castles, the cathedrals and other buildings of Switzerland. For the fans of the railways-models we have more than 3500 m of rails with no less than 18 trains, funiculars, rack-railways, cable-cars and boats in motion. All the models of our exhibition are built on the scale of 1:25.

Miniture park in Melide (5 minutes by rail or car from Lugano)
This beautiful miniature village is located in Melide, around 5-6 kilometers from Lugano.
It represents the most known monuments and buildings of Switzerland in a scale of 1:25.
Swissminiatur has also a network of miniature rail which is around 3 kms long, so this will be a paradise for miniature rail enthusiasts.
Inside the park there is also a self - service restaurant with menus for tourists (french fries, etc...) and a shop selling tourist merchandise.
It is considered one of the few attractions for children in Ticino.
