    The shuttle bus can take you from the airport to where you want to go in the area. It will also pick you up in Lugano or you can go to the RR station and get it there.

    All the information you will need is in the language of your choice on their website. Just select the flag from the country whose language you wish to use.

    However, you must realize they only speak Italian.
    So it is best to fax them your needs several days ahead and translate it into Italian.

  • In Lugano they have their own airport (Lugano-Agno) and there are up to 10 daily flight to Zurich and destinations as Bern or Geneva are available to. Even International Destinations as London or Paris might also be available, but check before the timetable at www.crossair.ch or www.swissair.ch. From Lugano-Ango you have a train connection from Agno (10min walk from Airport) to Lugano Main Station ---

    Train connections are available from here every hour to Zurich, Luzern, Basel or Bern. If you like to go from Ticino to French part of Switzerland (Geneva, Lausanne or Valais) you might go better via Milano (Italy) and take the route via Domodossola and Brig, this goes faster than going via Zurich/Luzern/Bern. There are also a lot of trains to Milano, Roma and Venice. --- By Postbus you can take a 4h trip to St. Moritz, but don't forget, this goes via Italy and you need your valid passport. In Winter the bus goes only once daily and in summer its up to two daily connections.
    In Lugano they have a good (trolly)bus system. Not like in other Swiss Cities its a line with 1 number which makes return travel with the same number, each direction has its own number. Tickets you can get from the Ticket machine at nearly every station. ---

    Taxis are also available but with usual Swiss price. ---

    There are also ships available from here to Gandria, Melide, Morcotte or what ever.

    from zurich it's a beautiful drive. Also very easy to get to from Milan. I was driving from Germany to Italy and went through Switzerland. On the way to Germany I passed through lugano and was very impressed. So, on the way back home I decided to stop there for the night. My wife and I did and we had a nice stay.

  • Swiss public transports are really excellent in my opinion, may be because I am used to Italy, where, out of the main cities you need a car to do anything, I am sure that can in Switzerland you could survive without a private car.

  • There are direct trains from all major Swiss towns, as well as from Milano. Lugano also has an airport and Swiss have a bus running between the airport and the train station. I wouldn't advise driving if your just visiting for the weekend, as there is the minor matter of the Gottard tunnel. There are almost always jams to get through, we once took over 6 hours to do the 50km from just after Belinzona to the tunnel - not fun!
    It is a compact city which you can walk round, or there is a good bus network, most journeys cost 1.50CHF. There is a funny little funicular type train that runs from the station to the town centre. It isn't exactly a long way, just on a hill. I've never bothered using it as the walk is only 5 minutes, and if you don't walk you miss out on the opportunity to stop at my favorite cafe!!

    This is the faster way to go from the station to the centre, but if you are not too lazy or too frozen, a walk might be better for your eyes

    From italy there are trains leaving from Bologna or Milan, Lugano is about one hour of train from Milan and 3 hours from Bologna.

    Getting there: by plane. In 1989 I flew from Amsterdam to Zurich - my first flight ever! From Zurich I took a Crossair plane to Agno airport not far from Lugano. I took a cab to the hotel. The Crossair plane was extremely small, the hostess could not walk straight, she had to bend over (No kidding!). Fascinating flight across the Alps.
    Getting around: on foot mostly, and by means of a so-called cog railway to the top of San Salvatore, where there's a small chapel...
