We did rent a motor boat. It was a great fun. Some hours across the lake with its beautiful mountains around - fantastic.

From sailing to windsurf, from water-skiing to scuba diving, from wakeboard to other fantastic proposals. We did rent a motor boat. It was a great fun. Some hours across the lake with its beautiful mountains around - fantastic. rent belong the lake or ask in your accomodation. |

The hike starts from Brč, over Lugano, and the first day your destination is the Pairolo mountain hut. It's about a 4-5 hours walk, with one difficult stretch when you pass under some rocky mountains called "denti della vecchia" (old woman's teeth). The terrain is not very stable, the path narrow, and on your side there's a cliff (fall and you're done). The second day is an easy day: your evening destnation is about 3 hours away and the mountain hut is called San Lucio. Day 3 is the most strenuous one: it's a 5-6 hours walk to the Monte Baro mountain hut, if you decide to go there over a gorgeous mountain called Gazzirola. Your last day is easy: first you have a 30 minutes ascent to the Monte Baro and then it's all downhill to Gola di Lago, from where you should be able to find a bus (or a lift) back into the civilization hiking boots and trekking poles (optional), 2 bottles of water (there's no water along the trails) and some packed lunches. Breakfast and evening meal are available at all mountain huts. Also bring your passport as parts of the hike are in Italy. |

This hike is very dear to me - I think it must have been my first hike - I've gone to the Chiera lakes countless times, and yet they never fails to fascinate me. The path starts off smoothly through meadows full of noisy cows (+ cowbells), then it reaches an alp. From there the real ascent starts:it's quite steep but not dangerous: half way up the mountain the path forks: if you go left you're heading towars the nerby peak (pecianett), if you go right you'll be on your way to the Chiera lakes. It takes about three hours from where you have parked your car. because the lakes are at about 2300 metres above sea-level (read: snow) it's best to go them in summer hiking boots and a water bottle.. don't bother to fill it up completely... there's a fountain half way up - and all the way up you can just use the water of the lakes |

| San Salvatore - Morcote | | |

This is a low-elevation hike that can be done about all-year round, although in winter it's bitterly cold (but mostly snow-free). It starts from the top of the San Salvatore mountain, above Lugano, which you can reach by funicular from Lugano-Paradiso. The first stretch is all downhill, to the hamlet of Ciona and the village of Carona. From there you should follow the signs pointing you towards Morcote - there are two paths, with the one going through the botanical garden being the nicest one. At some point, about 2-3 hours after you've left, you'll come across an alp turned into restaurant in the middle of agrazing meadow (Alpe Vicania). There is a flight of stairs leading to the village of Morcote (avoid it - there are over 1000 leg-killing steps). Take the unpaved road to the right and follow the signs to Vico Morcote, another tiny and cheerful village - and from there follow the signs to Morcote, an old traditional fishing village. All together it should take 4-5 hours, and from Morcote you can either take the bus or boat back to Lugano Hiking boots and some water. This is another hike to a mountain lake - it takes about 2 hours to reach the lake. The official path follows the dirt track that head right of the skilift: when you reach a small alp with pigs, right before you turn left and keep going until you reach a second alp.This is where you should stop on your way down and buy fresh milk. From here it's straight up under the other skilift (no path there!): when you reach the end, keep heading uphill over a saddle, and you'll have reached the Carė lake. Alternatively (and especially because the path is marked really badly) from the start you could walk uphill under the first ski-lift: it's a bit more strenuous, but you won't risk getting lost. hiking boots and drinking water + some empty plastic bottles to buy milk from the farmers on your way down |

Paragliding, walking or extreme climbing - all possibilities on this mountain near to Lugano. Easier flight, to take-off from a place next to the Motto di Cima forest (1600 ms), or from Vetta (1700 ms) towards Valle di Muggio (used by the most expert paragliders). Mount Generoso is ideal for flights towards Mendrisio, Castel San Pietro and other places near Mendrisio. It is also good for long distance flights.
