You may get to Maria Einsiedeln easily by train !
There is at least one train every hour from Zurich and to go to Einsiedeln will mostly take less than 1 hour, including the time , when you have to exchange trains in Waedenswil.
From Luzern / Lucerne it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes and you have to change mostly at Waedenswil and also at Thalwil.
All of these train-lines are part of the ordinary train-system of Switzerland, so your Eurail- and Interrail-tickets will be valid without restrictions and also without any extra-charges !!

You may drive by your own car easily from Luzern / Lucerne or from Zuerich or Zug. The road #8 between Rapperswil and the village of Schwyz is the only way to get to Maria Einsiedeln, situated in a hight of 905 meters above sea-level.
You also should be prepared that all the large parking-spaces around the village of Maria Einsiedeln you will have to pay for parking your car and from some of these parking-lots you still have to walk quite a distance to the Basilica, the monastery and the lovely buildings on main square / Hauptplatz.
On the other hand it is not advisable to drive into the very centre of the village !!

It's very famous and the highlight of the town. From the railway station it's about a 10 minutes' walk to the main square.

Einsiedeln is a picturesque village at the shore of Lake Sihl (Sihlsee). The village is not only famous for its abbey but also for its ginger bread. The kids do sledging in the hills behind the abbey....
