As we were coming down on the Gondola from Mt. Titlis, we could see a huge white building in Engelberg. Back in the car, we went to investigate, and found it was the Engelberg Abbey. The Abbey actually dates back to 1120, but it is not the original we were viewing, as the Abbey has been destroyed by fire three times. It always has been restored and...more
"The Little White Church," I do wonder what is the name and denomination of this Church?I can't find out, but I've read it was featured in a Bollywood film,“The Brave Heart Will Take the Bride," and that many Indian's come here to see the Church! This little white Church, with a wooden shingle roof and Bell tower, is located very close to the...more
The Monastery Church I was able to have a look inside on my own. Built in Baroque style, this Church is very beautiful inside.l It has many frescoes, and many beautiful side altar's.If you are Swiss, then you would probably know the largest organ in Switzerland is here. They don't use this Organ, but the smaller choir organ, which is fondly...more
We have arrived at the top of Mt. Titlis, which is 3028 metres high.We were here in Summer, and for the active, there are many things to do, like snow tubing and magic carpet's, not for us though!Time for us to go to the Ice Cave which is included in the admission price. The Ice Cave is 150 metres long and 20 metre's deep, and it took us beneath the...more
We have just alighted from the Gondola at the 2nd station, and are now entering the famous "Titlis Rotair revolving Gondola." It is quite big, and we were packed in. We are now on our way to the Summit, standing in the famous cable car that rotates once for the whole journey. There was a problem though, some people didn't get the idea of the floor...more
At the first Gondola station, we hop out and get into another Gondola to take us up the next section to Trubsee which is located at 1,800 meters. We are midway into our journey now, and if we wish, can go to the Jochpass mountain to the west, or continue to the top of Titlis to the south. The slopes are getting steep now, and if you are here in...more
Yes, Mt. Titlis was the reason we came to Engelberg! Now, the drive here didn't disappoint, infact, it really was very scenic, and one I enjoyed very much.On arrival at Engelberg, we found the Carpark quite easily. It was a gated park, where you bought a timed ticket, and then the gate lifted and let us in. There were a lot of people here, but we...more
This attraction is called "Kitzelpfad am Haerzlisee" "kitzeln" means "to tickle" and that is in fact what will happen to the soles of your feet, while you are walking without socks or shoes over this artificial path along and partly even through that small mountainlake. That was really a lot of fun, and even totally free of charge and certainly...more
Mount Titlis is a perfect place to go to, when you would like to enjoy some snow in summertime. Good hiking-shoes are essential for this and maybe you also take some walking-sticks. There is a chairlift called "Ice-flyer" that takes you across the glacier, but you can walk there as well and will find enough space to spend the full day. The only...more
We decided not to stay at Engelberg, but to head down the pretty valley and stay there. We saw the...more

This is a wonderful idea and I did not see it anywhere else : Next to Herzlisee and Brunnihuette you will find fire-grids at some places and you can buy coals, sausages and raw potatoes at a kiosk and grill them there. Take with you whatever you like to prepare there on the grill in the open air or buy the ingredients at the kiosk that you forgot...more
Brunnihuette is open summer and winter and it is the selfservice-restaurant next to Herzlisee. They have a large terrace with a wonderful panoramaview and some cosy rooms inside as well. I had Kalbs-Bratwurst and Roesti, a very popular dish in Switzerland and mostly also the cheapest dish that you will find on a menu. Kalbsbratwurst is a sausage...more
Schaukaeserei Kloster Engelberg is an interesting place, where you can watch how cheese is made and of course you will be able to taste some cheese there as well. They also have a well-sorted souvenir-shop and they even mail cheese to your homeadress - just click on the link below ! I had a plate with different cheeses of Switzerland, that tasted...more
In the first moment I thought, that is a great idea to be able to enjoy a panoramaview of the mountains, while going up in that cablecar. But then I realized that the cabin of the cablecar is not at all rotateing, but only the floor of the gondola is and so you have to adjust your hands at the handrail again and again, that was not funny at all....more
This summersledge-track is a lot of fun for your children and for people young at heart and you will find it next to the Ristis restaurant. A lift will take you uphill and then you can go 660 meters downhill again and watch some Lamas that are living there inside the fence of this great attraction. You can pay the fee for the sledges at a machine...more
Take a look at this great "rubber-sled" going downhill on a special racetrack of the glacier on top of Mount Titlis. The rides are free of charge but the queues of waiting people were much too long, so I did not go myself. Once that you have arrived at the end of the track there is an escalator taking you up again and there are people as well who...more
There are a lot of shops of all kind on top of Mount Titlis : I saw a shop for fine watches and a photoshop, where you can dress in traditional costumes and have your photo taken, there are seminar-rooms as well as various bars, so you will not get bored in case of bad weather on top of Mount Titlis. They really have a great choice of Swatch- and...more

Engelberg = "hill of the angels" The name of this village comes from an old ledgend : Konrad von Sellenbüren, the founder of the benedictinian monastery heared angels voices, who told him, where to build the monastery.
Nowadays you will find a total of 84 angels painted and decorated by different artists, and standing at various places of the village. you can even buy a booklet showing all of these angels for 55 sfr. In fact it is quite hard to find some of them without help, some of them hide on private balconies etc.
There is a good system of snow-covered paths to walk over the glacier of Mount Titlis and in the first moment it is not always easy to understand, why you would not be allowed to leave these marked paths. But there are crevasses at many places and maybe they are covered by just a thin, fresh layer of snow so you will not see them right away...Please...more
At the top of Titlis an Ice Flyer ride is touted - a chairlift ride over the glacier of Titlis - in reality its a short ride for the money (10 Sfr) IMHO and you can see the glacier pretty well as you rotate over it on the way up to the summit in the ROTAIR cable-car itslef. Was happy to give this chairlift ride a miss
Fun Alternatives: Grab a window view in the ROTAIR cable -car from Strand to Titlis (last section of the ride up) and have your camera ready and zoom in - remembering that the godola will rotate so don''t lean on the window!
see pic 2 for my effort
Good shoes are essential everywhere in the swiss mountains, otherwise you will have to stay at the platforms around of the stations of the cablecar, while the real fun and best panoramaviews are mostly at places, where you will be able to walk to only with good shoes and a non-slippery sole.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Even when it is sunny and hot down in Engelberg it could be quite cold and windy up on Titlis or any other mountain, so it is the best to have several shirts, jackets, pullovers etc., that you can partly zip off according to the weather-situations.
Titlis Gletschergrotte / Titlis Glacier Cave might be a great experience for tourists who are not familiar with ice and snow. You can enter there free of charge and walk through the cold corridors, but in contrary to other such places the floor is totally covered by a special carpet that is at no place slippery at all. (e.g. In the icecave of...more
Truebsee in a hight of 1800 meters above sea-level is one of the stations that you will pass by when taking the cablecars up to Mount Titlis. You can take some nice hiking-tours around the station Truebsee and the lake with the same name. The cablecar to Truebsee is included as well in the tell-ticket.In Winter this will be a good place for...more
