Good to know!

by barbskie

This is not a favorite thing but i think a general information for all travellers: More and more airports are strictly enforcing carry-on baggage regulations in the interest of your in-flight own safety and comfort, so do here. So if you are travelling in the country, please take note what to pack before your departure. Carry-on baggage must not contain any dangerous goods and it must fit under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin. Laptops allowed but have to pass in the scanning maschine without its bag. Watches and belts have to undergo scanning too.. Unfortunately, there are still some passengers who do not observe the regulations thus causing sometimes the delays.

Bringing liquids on board!

by barbskie

The European Union brought new wide security provisions which have been adopted for the country by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation. These are applicable for all airports within EU and Switzerland. Under the new rules are; liquids, gels and creams may be taken on board provided they are in containers of 100 ml or less which are transparently carried in a resealable plastic bags up to 1 liter in volume. Per passenger 1 bag and they are available at various retail airport outlets or at the spot before passing the customs. Mostly, there are security personnels distributing it. Liquids purchased at an EU airport duty- free shops can be also be taken on board under the new regulations.

Import Telephone Numbers

by bianchis

This has nothing to do with favourite thing but useful to haveEmergency Calls:117 Police in case of emergencies 118 Fire Brigade 144 Ambulance (not in all areas) Informations Services:111 Numbers of subscribers within Switzerland, doctors, theatres, etc. 1141 To place calls abroad when direct dialling is not possible 140 Motoring assistance 162 Weather report 163 Conditions of traffic, roads and passes 187 Avalanche Bulletin This is not my fondest memory but its good to know in case you bring cameras and mobile phone or a notebook. The current used is 230 Volts (AC), 50 cycles. Most power sockets are designed for three pin round plugs. The standard continental type plug with two round pins, applied for many electrical travel products, may be used without problem2. Adaptors are available in most hotels.

Money

by mabu

One of the thing everybody seems to know about Switzerland is that life here is expensive... :-(Yes it's true.... On the Picture you can see some of our banknotes (hope the Swiss National bank won't get me for scanning them...)There are these notes:- CHF 1'000.-- color is violet, (my favorite, i collect them with not much success...)- CHF 200.--brown- CHF100.-- blue on the pic - CHF 50.-- green- CHF 20.-- red on the pic- CHF 10.-- yellow on the picThe coins are:CHF 5.-- , 2.--, 1.--, --.50, --.20, --.10, --.05all coins are silver colour only the -.05 is gold colour. Its best is not to carry too much cash with you, and no bigger notes then 100.-- otherwise it can get difficult to change them. The next ATM is never very far away, as Switzerland is known to be the country of the Banks. Crdeit Cards ar widely accepted (Most used: Visa and Mastercard). The best place to change money to Swiss...

Swiss Francs - Not Euros

by SLLiew

Switzerland is not part of EU although it is in the center of Europe. Switzerland has maintained herself as a "neutral" country. So Swiss Francs is the currency - not Euros. Convertion: 1 Swiss Franc = 0.6243 Euro

From the air, Swiss Alps

by SLLiew

Flying into or across Switzerland, looking out the window, one is amazed by the beautiful snow covered rugged Swiss Alps. The heart of Europe being forged by the collision of the African north tectonic plate and Eurasian plate. OK that is geography. But it takes awhile to sink in that the peaks are moving and getting higher little by little.

Enjoying the lakeside of Lucerne

by SLLiew

While you can go boating or ferry trip to explore Lake Lucerne, nothing beats a walk along the lake. It is possible to drive a round trip around the lake but have no idea how it takes. The lake is the 4th largest in Switzerland. You can see wildlife - ducks along the lake. A far cry from the busy shopping or noisy cafes in downtown. Life slows down a little along the lake.

Gable Paitings of Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke)

by SLLiew

While walking across this famous landmark bridge of Lucerne, one cannot help looking up and seeing the series of paintings above. The paintings are dated back into 17th century. They tell the history of Lucerne. Unfortunately in 1993, there was a major fire. So most of the bridge and paintings are new and reconstructed.
