As several other cities in Switzerland, also Basel features in late summer an Open Air Cinema. It is nicely located in the middle of the city on the Munsterplatz.
In the evening they will errect the big screen so you can view the films here.
The dates and films you can find on the website below. Mostly they have newer films. On one evening they have a surprise night - which can be good, very good or just bad (yes, we also had that).
Of course the whole experience is very weather dependent. They will show the film in almost every weather (maybe except for wind) ... but really, have you ever seen MIB in streaming rain? (the film was too good to walk away...and a real experience, too - lol)
Tickets: www.helloyellow.ch
or directly on the spot.
Dress Code: depends on the weather (see above :-)
casual.

Every Monday night these guys put together a Pub Crawl around the best Pubs and clubs Basel has to offer. I went on my own but made friends with lots of peopl from around the World. It was really cool and these guys seem to have good relations with all the bars as the drinks were flowing. Great idea, super fun and inexpensive.

We went to see Don Giovanni at the theater, in a modern design. It was a treat. The acoustics of the, rather small, concert hall, is perfect. The orchestra was fine and the performabce excellent. Even if you do not love Mozart, you'll be pleased. The opera had supertitles, for those of us who do not understand Italian.
We thought it is a very nice building, using concrete very creativily.
We bought tickets in the morning - ignoring the Tourist Information who said that they do not open until 15.00 - on the second row of seats on the balcony (second rang). They informed us there was also an introduction to the opera, about 45 minutes before the start. Also recommended.
Dress Code: Do take some care, but no requirements. During the interlude, many people went outside.

We had trouble finding a good place to hang out on a Saturday night until some Swiss girls took us to Fame. It was okay, the music was Hip Hop and then later they played what they called "House" but it wasn't as good as the house music I know. Entrance is generally 5 CHF and after that all drinks are 5 CHF. After a certain hour they only let ladies in so boys should get there early in order to guaruntee themselves a spot inside. I had to make up a crazy lie in order to get myself in with six others. Also, they don't have a very big selection of alcoholic drinks if that makes a difference to you.
Dress Code: Dress up in order to get past the bouncers!

Only available in the summertime (that means between the end of Juni to the end of July).
It´s hot and you want to do something special in Basel? Try this.
During the day you can go swimming and bathing in the pools of the Joggeli (St. Jakob). In the evening they prepare a screen, so you can watch a film under the stars and at the pool...
Very nice ambiente.
They offer a new film every evening.
For the program, have a look at the website I indicated.
This is one of the two open air cinemas Basel features during summertime (the other is at the Munster)

Bar Rouge is located in the Messeturm, and is a Bar and Disco.
The Messeturm (Mass Tower) is with 107m the highest Building in Switzerland and one of the new "highlights" of Basels Skyline (so the builders say). I think its more a klutz.
In the Tower on the 31st and 30 floor there is the "Bar Rouge".
During the week the entrance is free.
On weekends they do have special attractions like "Latin Night" or so, and then it costs.
What is special here are the toilets. Entering your toilet cabin you have a wonderful view right over the city, since the windows go from the ceiling to the floor. Nothing for people who are afraid of heights.
(and if you know where to look, you could be able to see some small people sittiing on the toilet, since the windows are not mirrored - but it is quite high up. so you will not really see much).
Dress Code: Dress Code Depends on the event.
Opening times:
Monday to Wednesday 5 p.m. - 1 a.m.
Thursday 5 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. - 4 a.m.
Sunday 8 p.m. - 1 a.m.
(Thanks to my friend Tea for the picture, he made it with a handy so never mind the quality)

Cafes Des Arts. If you want a quiet drink on a week night this is a great place to go. It's a really nice piano bar, there is usually a bloke playing the piano and singing. However, at weekends it is packed to the rafters and so busy it's not fun. Beware of the revolving doors!!
There is a fair amount of art on the walls (unsurprisingly!!) including some by ex-Basel resident Jean Tinguely.
Dress Code: Smart casual, though I usually feel underdressed in jeans at the weekends.
