Yes, yes, keep going to the top, the path zig zags its way between the snow and rocks, it is easy, especially if you are in your 20's and 30's. It is great day to reach the top and view the world for many kms around you.

You have successfully climbed past a series of small lakes called the Bachsee and you have rested for the final ascent. Be like the Sherpas and Climbers on Mt Everest, in Nepal and climb to the top, why? Because it is there.

Maybe there is a snack bar open for you to imbibe that great beverage just to say that Yes I made it.

Eigerwand is the name of the 2nd station of the Jungfraubahn in a height of 2865 meters above sea-level. The train to Jungfraujoch will have a short stop there and the passengers may take a look through the giant windows looking down on Grindelwald and the Eiger-glacier. The total stop will take around 10 minutes, and you will have enough time to take a look - the conductors will make sure, nobody is left back there...
When looking out of the window, you may also see a few iron-fixtures next to one of the windows, obviously they were left back by someone, who climbed up the Eiger there.
At this station you may also powder your nose...

It certainly is a memorable sight to be climbing on a clear day and to be able to see the range of Mountains to the south.

The original views were on slides which do not translate into such good photos, however I am sure you can get the impact of the outstanding views.

Eigergletscher is the name of the 1st station of Jungfraubahn after Kleine Scheidegg and from there you may hike a small mountain-path down to Alpiglen (2:50h) and finally to Grindelwald (+ 4:00 h)
from Eigergletscher you may also walk down to Wengen within 5 hours (or 2:20h to Wengeralp).
Just a few hundred meters past the station Eigergletscher the Jungfraubahn will go on INSIDE the mountain for the rest of the journey to Jungfraujoch, and there will be 2 more short stops of about 10 minutes each, where you may get out and take a look through giant windows.

Instead of walking down to Grindelwald why not try to climb the mountain above the First cable car destination.

The path gradually climbs and a small lake becomes an inviting spot to view the surrounding mountains, in particular the range of mountains stretching east from the Eiger, past the Metterberg to the Wetterhorn. Tucked away near the Wetterhorn is Grosser Scheidegg, which can also be reach from First and thereused to be a bus service back to Grindelwald

The return journey takes less time than the climb but can be tough on the legs. There are many other views to enjoy including the flowers that can be seen along the paths.

The return trip is one that allows you to consider what to have for the evening meal.

As you rest at the first lake this is in part the view of the mountains across the valley to the south.

The small white dot on the face of I believe the Metterberg, is a hang glider who had taken off from First and circled the valley using the air currents to stay aloft.

The gap in the mountain to the right of the photo is the opening into and out of the valley where Grindelwald is situated. That gap carries the river ( Schwarze Lutschine ), the road and the railway system.

Across the gap can be seen Mannlichen, the higher mountains in the distance are in the vicinity of Murren and the Schilthorn.

Both lie above the Lauterbrunnen valley.

I believe the view includes the top of the Brienzer Rothorn at 2350m, way across the other side of the Brienzersee.

Further north is France and Germany.

On a clear day you can see forever!!

Surley well worth the effort to climb to the top.

  • Directions: One way to hike to faulhorn is from First, on the east side of Grindelwald. Another is to take a mountain railway from Widerswil to Schynige Platte, then hike to the top of Faulhorn.

    Another mountain.
    by dabidc
It is relatively easy to see the trail on the journey down the mountain and so it allows for more viewing all around. A little different from the upward climb, when all you could see were your feet on the trail as you wondered if you would ever make it. Or even wondered what you were doing here in the first place.

The reward was truly worth the effort. I hope that is what you say.
