this is NOT the COOP, but closeby !

COOP and MIGROS-restaurants are mostly a great way to save money in Switzerland when you are on a budget ! There is a MIGROS, that does not have a restaurant in Gstaad, but COOP has one and I got there at 04.30pm. ALL of the warm dished had been taken away already at that time "because we are closing at 5.00pm" , that was the only explanation that I was given in french as an answer to my question in german.
Thats why I left again, but when you come in time its certainly a cheap place for lunch !

Favorite Dish: They had veal with potatoes for about 15 sfr, as far as I remember, thats quite a good price compared to other restaurants in Gstaad !

acording to the ROUGH GUIDE this is the cheapes place to eat in Gstaad
here u hang out with the pensionist and the snowboarders...
the food is nice but simple but dont expect it to be super cheap...even a road side diner in norway are cheaper :-)
good quick food worth a try if u are on a budget and still wants to go out to eat

Favorite Dish: we tried the dish of the day
the funny thing is they weigh ur food and u pay for what u put on there :-)))
which is a smart thing ..u pay for what u want to eat

The Arc-en-ciel is a large hotel/residence/restaurant complex a little bit outside the main downtown area of Gstaad. The outdoor cafe area is large and pretty - the hotel has an amazing display of flowers adorning it in the summer.

There are several places you can sit (there is a rare non-smokers area indoors!) but in summer definitely pick outside on a nice day. Good views of the mountains and often hiking groups stop by here for pizza on their way back from a hike.

Favorite Dish: Pizza!!

Cafe Pernet: Yes, a budget place to eat in Gstaad!!

Views not far up the hill in Gstaad

The restaurant is on the main street in downtown Gstaad (so no problem to people watch from the outdoor seating). It has very typical dishes from the Gstaad area (Saanenland) such as kaseschnitte, and also some very basic meat and potato types of dishes, lasagne, spaghetti etc.. All quite basic, but done well and at a good price. It is a good place to get a quick meal or snack or even to just sit and drink tea and watch the people parading up and down the main pedestrianized street in town. It is by no means gourmet food, but is good food for those on a budget and still has the appeal of being downtown in the main part of Gstaad.

German, English and French is spoken here.

Favorite Dish: kaseschnitte mit ei or the daily menu (a good bargain). Also the ice cream deserts are nice.
