    One day at Trümmelbachfälle

by besbel Updated Mar 23, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Getting around Interlaken, you will find the Trümmelbachfälle, reaching Lauterbrunnen. It is a weird waterfall because it does not flows out but inside the rocky mountain, forming gorgeous cascades. So, we had to get into the mountain through an elevator (and after paying CHF 10 for entrance) in order to admire the wise of nature.

Fondest memory: The mountain circle around Interlaken, as well as the blue sky of August.

Favorite thing: A cute cow with a bell... ;) I was determined to get at least one photo of one of these cows, they were just sooo cute... :)

I am still not sure why all the cows over there have bells though, I was told several stories but I'm not sure which to believe...

    Reach JUNGFRAU (4158 M)

by Sharrie Written Feb 25, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Reach JUNGFRAU (4158 M): 'TOP OF EUROPE' is the name of the restaurant on the 3454 m Jungfraujoch which offers visitors panoramic view of ALETSCH GLACIER - longest in the world, beginning at the foot of Jungfraujoch & continuing south into Rhone Valley. Jungfraujoch is departure point for many skiing, glacier & mountain climbing tours.

Fondest memory: The journey from Interlaken is actually more interesting than standing on this mountain itself as one can't see the majestic view of the mountain from here, although you can have a very good view of the glacier.

    Finally we reached MANNLICHEN

by Sharrie Written Feb 25, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Finally we reached MANNLICHEN at 2230 m. A unique mountain, not snow-capped when I was there in Summer, it's a contrast from those of Jungfrau, Monch & Eiger.

Fondest memory: One can have real quiet moments on this mountain since most tourists will opt for the more popular 'Top of Europe'. Very nice :-))

There's less than 10 of us here! Isn't it lovely to have to mountain to yourself?!

    Upon reacing Lauterbrunnen

by Sharrie Written Feb 25, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Upon reacing Lauterbrunnen, join the other tourists & take a short bus ride to WENGEN: another car-free chalet-style ski resort. I love Wengen, the shops sell very nice crafts & the people there are very friendly, wondering where I'm from & why a nice girl like me was traveling by myself, hahaha.....

Fondest memory: The view from this village is exceptionally breathtaking. Even more beautiful than Murren, this village is very nice to stroll in...

Take the cable-car route to Schilthorn

by Sharrie Written Feb 25, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Take the cable-car route to SCHILTHORN: This is where you can get a bird's eye view of the entire mountain range, & you get to feel like on top of the world! It has a rotating restaurant at an altitude of 3,000 m which offers a spectacular 360° panoramic view over the Alps. From here, on a clear day you can see forever!

Fondest memory: The 30 minutes Schilthorn Cableway ride bypassing from Murren & Gimmelwald at 1400 m is so magnificent I'm loss for words...

    the charm of interlaken

    by call_me_rhia Written Feb 1, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Interlaken is a well-known summer and winter holiday resort in Central Switzerland squeezed between two lakes of emerald green colour (in fact Interlaken means between lakes - in this case the lake of thun and of brienz). A website I shall not name describes it as having "the ambience of a small town atmosphere with big city sophistication". The latter, I'm afriad to say, is a badly-made up lie

Fondest memory: After having got over the shock of seeing people parading around in horse-drawn carriages, and after having left the truly horrible, touristy and tacky Banhofstrasse (the main street), I found some charm in th backlanes: basically how interlaken would look like if there was no tourism: little shops, tiny restaurants serving local specialities (and not only fondue), quiet parks by the lake, hundreds of ducks.

a quiet square (town-hall square?) in the old town

    by Nexus7 Written Aug 26, 2002

Favorite thing: See the mountains and lakes. If you want to be in a touristy place go to Interlaken, which is fun and very safe. There is a lot to do such as sky diving, ice climbing, and parasailing. It is situated between two gorgeous lakes with the Jungfrau range in the background.

Fondest memory: Skydiving, staying at Balmers (love those guys) and going to Lauterbrunnen see the waterfalls.

    Turqoise lakes and ducks

by Jenniflower Updated Apr 14, 2006

Favorite thing: The water of the river that flows through Interlaken was pure aqua in colour. See through and not a ripple to be seen. The ducks were having great fun in it, and provided much entertainment to us :)
