Thun, Interlaken

Another recommendable activity for those that don't go climbing mountains is a boat cruise in either lakes Thun or Brienz. That's a great opportunity to watch the lanscape and tour the castles and churches around them. You can see http://www.bls.ch for more info, or

The views of the town, Lake and surrounding mountains, from the castle walls are breathtaking.

But the castle itself is well worth a visit. Magnificent rooms and armours, as well as an exhibition on the history of Thun.

The town of Thun, just across the Lake Thun, coming from Interlaken, was a very pleasant surprise. The town main square is beautiful, and the promenade along the canal down to the lake, on a sunny day, is an absolute must.

A journey around Lake Thun allows you to see some breathtaking landscapes of the mountains and the lake, and also to visit several castles, of different ages.

Be aware of the opening times, because some of them are closed for most of the day.

The Castles I visited are:
Spiez (also visit the harbour, with beautiful sunsets, and a church a thousand years old, right next to the castle).
Hünegg (be sure to visit also the woods around the castle)
Oberhofen (also visit the fabulous gardens right along the river bank)

Thun is both the name of a lake on the river Aare and a medieval town (no I find out). I passed by this lake many times while on the run from one job site to another. If only I had know what else Thun was known for. There is always next time and now I am an informed tourist. My sister took these pictures and was kind enough to let me use them here.

The city Thun contains a castle and quaint medieval centre. Amoung its vistas are the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The Niesen (2362m) and flat-topped Stockhorn (2190m) are gentle preludes to the Alps further to the south

A very relax & delightful cruise passing by many interesting resorts and castles. I especially remember Spiez, a most lovely resort!
