    A Few Hours In Wengen

by Mikebb Updated Apr 18, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Returning from Jungfrau mid afternoon we decided to leave the train at Wengen , have a late lunch and then walk around this mountain town.

First to the local bakery for lunch which we ate in the park opposite, then a walk through the main street with my wife finding time to browse through some shops. The town has many accommodation buildings and I would think these are mainly for the ski season.

We walked through the streets admiring the local homes, the local church and the various home vegetable gardens. From most points we obtained wonderful views of the valley and the higher mountains and were able to take some fine photos.

With time running out we caught the train down the mountain to Lauterbrunnen and our hotel.

    Day Trip To Bern

by Mikebb Updated Apr 17, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Awakening to an overcast day with light rain we decided that it was the ideal time to use a spare day on our Swiss Rail Card and visit Bern.

Our trip took less than 90 minutes taking the train to Interlaken and then a train to Bern. From Interlaken the scenery was enjoyable with the rail track following the lake for some time. In no time we were in sunny Bern!

A beautiful city, at one time the capital of Switzerland, it has a well preserved old town, including many interesting buildings, lovely gardens and a nice river flowing by the city.

Easy to walk around we had a great time and as we came home on the train I said to my wife "Thank God it rained, otherwise we would never had seen this city".

Horse & Carriage Ride - Interlaken

by Mikebb Written Apr 21, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Certainly a tourist thing, I doubt if you would ever see the locals taking a ride. It quickly grabbed our attention as we left the Interlaken train station on returning from our day in Bern.

No idea what they charge and I guess waiting time would be short as there were several carraiages operating.

    A great photo opportunity.

From Lauterbrunnen trainstation take the special cabletrain up to murren. When u arrive you aren't in murren yet but have to walk a long walk. Its really worth it. The views are spectacular and along the way you'll find lots of swiss cows with big bells. When you get to Murren you can drink a coffee with schnaps or hot chocolate at one of the little cafees with beautiful view over the valley. Then take the cable car down to stechelberg. Here you can go Bungy Jumping off a cable car. The company is called Adventure World. Then walk back to Lauterbrunnen. It takes up half a day or more depending on how much time you wanna take.

    ISENFLUH

Isenfluh is a little Mountain Village on the way to Lauterbrunnen. We decided to head up here for our morning tea.

The road was narrow and windy like most of the roads are, at least it was very quiet and we didn't meet another Car. On the way up, we passed through a Tunnel coming out into sunshine and beautiful mountain scenery.
The Village was very quiet, just several people enjoying a Beer at the Pub, but boy - What a view of the snow capped Mountains from here. We did see a Gondola operating from here, and quite a few wild-flowers. There was accommodation in this hidden off the beaten track village.

Well, we didn't have a Beer, but a thermos of hot Coffee and some Cake we had bought from the Bakery, so here we sat, admiring the view, enjoying our food, and wishing it would last forever.

Well, it couldn't, so back in the Car it was to make our way into the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
