Ballenberg is a great open-air-museum 10 km west of Meiringen. Plenty of houses of all over Switzerland had been rebuilt there.
It was amazing for me to see the differences in style and details and all of the 90 farmhouses still have cows, pigs, horses, geese etc. as well and during the day most of the buildings are open for the visitors and you may watch the employees of the Ballenberg-museum-village, when they work on the farms like in the old times, when they were producing their own baskets, made wood-carvings, weaving, spinning the wool, baking bread or making cheese etc. There is also a blacksmith you may watch, or you may have a meal in one of the various traditional inns.
From Brienz train-station there is a bus to Ballenberg. Walking-time from the station is about 25 minutes. When you arrive by car : follow the sign-posts at the east-end of Brienz !
The openair-museum Ballenberg is open for visitors
daily between May and October : 10.00a.m.-05.00p.m
besides that time you may walk around on your own without entrance-fee !!
the entrance-fee is 16 sfr / 10 Euros !
There is a really large parking at the entrance - free of charge !!
and also several lockers for small luggage !
...and psst : this quiet parking is perfect for motorhomes at night !! :-))

HERE WE ARE IN OUR APARTMENT ON THE MOUNTAIN ABOVE MEIRINGEN AT HASLIBERG REUTI. THANKS TO REBIBI AND REMOS WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO STAY IN THIS WONDERFUL HOUSE. IT WAS SO NICE TO STAY IN ONE PLACE FOR A WEEK INSTEAD OF DIFFERENT HOTELS EACH NIGHT. IT WAS SEPT. 23RD AND THE SNOW CAME DOWN. I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE IN SWITZERLAND WHEN IT SNOWED. FLOWERS WERE STILL OUT AND VERY PRETTY WITH SNOW ON THEM. If you would like an apartment in the mountains please write to me and I will give more information.

HASLIBERG - REUTI IS A VERY RURAL COMMUNITY. IT IS NOT ONE OF THE TOURISTY SPOTS EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE SOME HOTELS AND RENTALS IN THE AREA. WE LIKED BEST BEING ABLE TO TAKE WALKS ON THE QUIET NARROW ROADS AND ENJOY THE ARCHITECTURE OF SO MANY OF THE TYPICAL SWISS CHALETS. HOMES ARE WELL MAINTAINED WITH FLOWERS EVERYWHERE.

Magisalp is on the cable-car route up to the Alpen Tower. Its a walkers paradise here amongst the mountains and lovely views over lake Brienz can be seen too.
It looked quite different to Rebibi, the last time she had been here was in the winter when this area becomes a ski-ing stop.

THIS WAS A VIEW I DID NOT GET TO SEE, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NEAR OUR APARTMENT. THE WEATHER WAS CLOUDY. THE PICTURE WAS TAKEN BY A SWISS FRIEND. THERE ARE SEVERAL HIKING TRAILS AND MOUNTAIN CLIMBING DONE IN THE AREA.
