Visit the Castle

The must if you could see only one thing in the town. The castle, built in 1191 is towering over the whole town and its red roof suits the red roof of the church at the bottom of the hill (yeah, the castle is on the hill so you'll have to do a bit of climbing) perfectly. Inside the castle there is a nistorical museum featuring exhibits belonging to different ages.

Going to the top of Schilthorn!!!!!! MUST SEE!!!!! We recieved a tip the day before we went (cause the day before the weather was crap....) if you cannot see the top from the bottom it is not worth going up because you will be dissapointed. We were lucky, we could see for miles!!!!! I would not trade this experience in for the world. It's just surreal! You can also hike up this mountain, which would be strenuous but worth every aching muscle. We did not do this because of a lack of time.

Schloss Oberhofen
Oberhofen is memorable for its medieval castle, remodelled and sumptously decorated in the 17th and 19th centuries. Similar to castle Chillon (see Lausanne page) Schloss Oberhofen is situated by the water and has lovely views of the Alps.

When visiting Thun you absolutely must: Here is a good map. Get to know this area of Switzerland especially. i feel it is the most central location and has many wonderfull features and sights to see. If all you did was base yourself in Interlaken and fan out in a 50 mile radius you would have much to see indeed, The Bernese Oberland and the Thunersee are so intrinsically special many acclaimed writers in history(Rousseau/ Thackery /Twain for example) used the area for creative inspiration. I talk about it considerably on my other Swiss pages.

Accompanied by a special licensed tandempilot we jog a few steps down a hillside and smoothly glide away from mother earth. Our guests between 4 and 87 years agree:
- it is very easy but simply spectacular to be a bird! -
wou'll never forget the feeling

Go ski! But go to the Jungfrauregion for that. It has 205 km of skiing tracks, ranging from easy to bloodchilling. If you're a beginner like me, I discovered a great track to start with. In Grindelwald, take the funicular railway to Kleine Scheidegg. From there, follow the blue track nr. 24 back to Grindelwald. You can descend all the way back to the town on an easy track with some slightly more difficult slopes. Halfway down there's a small café which serves excellent meals. The first time I did this track it took me 4 hours, but the last time only 40 minutes.
