    ANOTHER TIP FOR A WALK....

    THE YOUNG ONES PRACTISING....

There is still another attractive walking path in this region!

This one leads you from FIRST to WALDSPITZ and then down to BORT.
It is about 8 km. in length.

If 8 km is too much for you then walk the beautiful BUSSALP - BORT path which is 6,5 km and is easy winter-walking.

NOTE: from there it is only another 4,5 km down to GRINDELWALD where it is good to stay but where also is the Railway Station....

    AFTER WALKING.....

    ONCE WALKED - NEVER FORGOTTEN!!

Yes, that is true! Everybody loves this splendid summer hiking path with its picture postcard views of the EIGER NORTH WALL, Mönch and JUNGFRAU........

but it also makes wonderful winter-walking!

From sunny Männlichen, the trail slopes gently down to Arvengarten before climbing again to KLEINE SCHEIDEGG.

The ARVEN chairlift provides an easy option if your legs are too winter-weary for the half-hour up-hill hike!

    Hiking time about 1½ - 2 hours......

    Perfect for a wonderful afternoon!

I shall tell you about another lovely trail in the next tip...see you there......

FROM I'LAKEN TO WENGEN BY TRAIN

My days were soooooo bright and sunny, which is such a fine start....

As you can read/see in my Switzerland page (transportation tips) travelling by train is GREAT in Switzerland and so I did!

While staying in Interlaken I travelled to WENGEN e.g. by train.
Even during that trip it was great to take photos from the train.......the landscape is so fascinatingly beautiful and impressive especially for me, coming from THE LOW LANDS, The Netherlands, flat as a pancake!

Once in WENGEN there is a great variety of HOW and where to spend your day(s)......

www.MySwitzerland.com is a good starting point.........

    On top of the world

Just stand in amazement at the view around you on the summit. I somtimes have one of those walking cards where you can put the mountain peak stamp in. Well I didn't have one this time but there was a stamp (hole puncher type) so I punched the hole pattern on my cable-car ticket as a momento. Imagine my surprise when I had finished doing this and there was a queue of Japanese behind me waiting to do thte same thing.......I obviously set a trend here!

    View from Maenlichen

Take the Mannlichen cable car for some wonderful high level walks - you really feel as if you could just reach out and touch those mountains. An easy stroll takes you to Kleine Scheidegg, looking across to the Eiger Monch and Jungfrau - one of my fav easy alpine strolls.

    looking down to Lauterbrunnen

From the top of Mannlichen take time to look down below to Wengen, below that the valley of Lauterbrunnen (also known as the valley of waterfalls) and way across on the other side is the highest Jungfrau village of Murren - also a wonderful village to explore.

When we first ascended the trails we hiked through lush forests and trails bordered with wildflowers. Then the farms and valleys with snow capped mountains came in view. This is where I first heard the melodic tones of the cow bells.

A train trip to 'The Top Of Europe'...
The train travels through a tunnel bored directly through the Jungfraujoch mountain itself ascends at a very steep incline to a height of almost 12,000 feet! At the top there is an impressive 'ice museum' (Great!) as well as a restaurant and the 'sphinx'. During the journey through the mountain the train makes a number of stops allowing people to view out onto the region below them at especially built viewing stations.
