    This is the tiny train station at the base of the mountain from Guarda. There is usually no one working here so read the schedule closely. The bus also uses this station to stop and pickup people just going to Guarda. The bus runs about every 30 minutes. The walk up the mountain takes about an hour without luggage.

    A local bus connects Scuol with the railway station, which is a bit outside the village. The local bus stops about every 200 metres in Scuol. A day ticket costs 2 Sfr. - in case you are on a day trip only, use the bus as a "sightseeing tour" - it runs across the lower village, too, where you find the most charming houses, cobbled streets, squares, the church etc.

    In winter the skibuses are free.

    In summer three lifts take you up to the mountains:
    - a gondola from Scuol to Motta Naluns (1295 - 2148 m)
    - a chair lift from Ftan to Prui (1650 - 2062 m)
    - a cable car from Samnaun to Alp Trida saddle (2500 m)

    All these are great starting points for hikes, the first also transports bikes.

    As usual in Switzerland, public transportation is very sufficient. It is easy to get to Scuol by narrow gauge railway (Rhaetian Railway, RhB). Postbuses take you from the railway station further to other villages, starting points for hikes etc.

    A regional saver pass, called "Ferienkarte Unterengadin" is offered. It covers all trains and buses in the Lower Engadine and Müstair Valley and is good for 7 days of free travel during 2 weeks. Costs about 65 Sfr. (a real bargain!)

  • Scuol is in the middle of mountains and it's a long way to get there by car. It can also be dangerous, especially in winter and with bad weather.
    The best way to get there is by train. Swiss trains are fast, clean and on time.
    You need 2,40 hours to get to Scuol from Zürich.
    There is also a car transport service that allow you to put your car on a train and travel on the same train.
