Generally speaking the buildings: each of them has its unique charm - a unique decoration, a unique iron-wrought sign. I also like the atmosphere: although touristic, it does not look artificial - there's very few places/bars/restaurants that one would call tourist-traps. For me Lucerne is Switzerland as its best. The Lake Lucerne (434 m above sea level) is fascinating due to its picturesque landscape. 20 boats (5 of them are nostalgic paddlesteamboats) enable you to take round trips and offer endless possibilities for excursions, which can also be combined with mountain railways along the lake.  Bourbaki Panorama, Lucerne by Fam_Stoica
Endless convoys of freezing, hungry and wounded soldiers are shown crossing the border under General Bourbaki - a moving picture of the miseries of war. The naturalistic masterpiece is the work of the Genevese painter of war scenes Edouard Castres and ten collaborators (among them Ferdinand Hodler) and was created in 1881. It was originally exhibited in Geneva and came to Lucerne in 1889. The plastic effect was achieved by painting technique alone, and the picture is supported by life-sized figures, weapons and other artifacts.
