During my time in Lucerne,I didn't had any meals in the city,we had a nice lunch in our way from Munich to Lucerne.Visiting the old town, our guide told us that the nice house that you can see on the picture is a nice place to eat in the old town and with very reasonable prices. The only thing that I know is that is a good buffet and is located at Painters Quarter just next to the riverside. Then I can't remember the name, sorry about that, but you won't find another house like that in Lucerne's Old Town!.

But I know a nice place also in the old town!.If you just want a snack or a piece of cake or pastry and a coffe, then I know a good place,it is named CAFE EMILIO and is located in the city center close to the lakefront.I had a huge appel cake and a capuchino coffe for about 7 Euros, not too expensive with prices in Switzerland!.

It was the aroma of the bread that lead me there. I bought 2 bread, one with cheese and ham and another with tomatoes. I love bread and could live on bread only and their breads are goooooood....

Cheese and Ham Cross. They are soft and the cheese is yummy.

Located inside a strangely decorated house (demons, not turn-of-the-century frescos), you can find this traditional swiss restaurant specializing in... potatoes! Rösti to be more precise, actually, which are boiled-grated-fried (in that order) potatoes - and they are delicious!

Rösti everything: from the traditional ones with an egg on top (spiegelei) or with ham (schinken) or zürich-style with meat. There are also more creative rösti compositions, but I believe that the traditional ones are the best

An old family restaurant with a great wine cellar (more than 40.000 bottles)

Wienerschnitzel (veal escalopes, a mixture of beaten egg, Swiss cheese and herbs, lemon and fresh egg noodles).

Co-Op Restaurant: Cheap decent lunch at the Co-Op

  • After spending CHF105 at a pub for dinner the night before, we decided that a cheaper lunch was in order. If the main point of your trip to Switzerland is culinary sampling, then this is probably not for you. However, if you're on a budget, give the restaurant at the Luzern Co-Op department store a try. For around CHF15, I got a swiss steak with gravy and sides, a dessert, and drink. It was similar to an Ikea restaurant, but the quality was much better. It's a perfect stop if you're doing a lot of shopping.

I only had the Swiss steak with peppercorn gravy, which was the special of the day. It was not gourmet, but very good nonetheless.

There's absolutely nothing pretentious about this beerhall/brasserie, where clients have been enjoying traditional food since 1602. The building that contains it has an outrageously colorful replica of a medieval fresco on its facade, and an interior pair of dining rooms, one of which contains a bar, and both of which are sheathed in richly intricate marquetry. Menu items --all familiar to your Swiss great-grandmother--include four kinds of pork schnitzel; entrecote of beef; sliced veal with a mushroom-flavored cream sauce; and sliced veal with morels. There is also a selection of fondues, any of which are better to taste during cold weather.

We found this cozy place while walking around Lucerne. Pasquale wanted me to sample a traditional winter Swiss meal and this place offered it on the menu. The location is central on a small street. Inside you will find that it is very small and cozy and the tables are very close together.

You must try the Ailpermakronen - its a pasta and cheese dish with a drizzling of fried onions - served with side of applesace. Delicious!!

A great location with outdoor riverside tables overlooking beautiful Chapel Bridge & the lake.

Excellent service, English menu available, top quality food with a wide choice of dishes.

Watch the people promenading by, listen to the strolling musicians. At dusk when the fairy lights come on it's a wonderful experience.

We had the house merlot red wine at SF22.50 for 500ml carafe, which was excellent. I had one of my all-time favourites veal cordon bleu, which is breadcrumbed tender veal wrapped around a slice of ham & Swiss cheese and fried in olive oil. Served with French fries & vegetables. Geina had a traditional bauernbratwurst, a large pork sausage made with herbs & spices served with onion sauce & French fries. Both dishes were outstandingly good.

We were also tempted by risotto with five herbs & parmesan cheese at SF19.60, and perch fillets sauted, with crayfish sauce, lemon rice & leaf spinach at 36.80.

The sandwich was good and other foods were also fine. The pizza is the specialty, based off the menu, but is just okay.

Local sandwich of meats and cheese.
